I made a hood rest out of delron, with high magnetic strips on one side and 1/4" rubber on the other. Just stick on the windshield frame over window and lean hood on it. When done, pull hood rest off and stick inside '40, say under the seat. I think online warehouse that I bought the super thick high magnetic tape from was McMaster-Carr. I bought 10 feet of it and it's mostly gone now.I do my work in the shop but this is a pretty solid strut and holds up tight. Lot better than leaning against windshield for normal maintenance checks. I personally don't want to take the chance of beating my hood up. If I go all the way up I throw a towel over the windshield frame center. The original bar strut seams to always be just not enough room for me. I have no reason to believe the wind would effect it.....unless you're in a high wind situation.
