I do my work in the shop but this is a pretty solid strut and holds up tight. Lot better than leaning against windshield for normal maintenance checks. I personally don't want to take the chance of beating my hood up. If I go all the way up I throw a towel over the windshield frame center. The original bar strut seams to always be just not enough room for me. I have no reason to believe the wind would effect it.....unless you're in a high wind situation.
I made a hood rest out of delron, with high magnetic strips on one side and 1/4" rubber on the other. Just stick on the windshield frame over window and lean hood on it. When done, pull hood rest off and stick inside '40, say under the seat. I think online warehouse that I bought the super thick high magnetic tape from was McMaster-Carr. I bought 10 feet of it and it's mostly gone now.

I went to pickup my new bumper from Toyota. I do love shiny new parts.

For anyone who doesn't know, new bumpers are still available from Toyota either online or shipped to your local dealer. Part is 52111-60030. My dealer charged $210.

As a tip. Order this part from your dealer and go and pick it up. Dont have someone ship this item to you. There is a good chance it will get damaged in transit. If you get it from the dealer you can check it out before you take possession and there are no shipping charges.

My ‘64 has a (what I believe to be) 4” Skyjacker lift. No idea if it needs to be replaced or not bc I’ve never ridden in any other 40. Is there a way to find out how old they are? I haven’t seen any numbers on the springs…granted I haven’t really looked.

Leaf springs do not need to be replaced because they are old. They need replaced when they loose their spring.
Shackle angles will be more telling than age would be.
Bushings and pins can be replaced.

Swapped the wheels and tires from my blue ‘67 to the red ‘78.

In this photo, the rear is the 33x10.5 ko2 on a stock Toyota steel wheel painted with rustoleum dark machine grey. The front is the 235/85R16 KO2 on the 16” city racer wheel in grey.

And here’s red with the 16” city racer wheels. Onto some wiring (no taillights!)

Got any pictures of that?

Not presently. It's inside the '40 under a cover (no garage). I'll see what I can do.

Here you go. Sorry, one pic is a bit blurry. This high energy magnetic flexible tape was sold by the foot, is 1/8" thick, and strong. The rubber side is a piece cut from a found truck tire flap. The center is thick enough to clear the front of the windshield frame past the the rag top. I had some delrin and sheet plastic from a plastics place and epoxied them together for the thickness I needed.
