Almost finished my 5spd and new transfer case assembly. Started mating the 5spd to the transfer case over the summer, forgot to order the input idler gear. Now that I have all of my parts I decided to work on it today as I need to pull the 4spd and transfer for my other project. I need to add the yokes, torque them down and then swap transmissions. That will be fun, NOT!
On another note, just in case anyone was wondering.....Yes, I did put in the oiler cup (first time too) and this combo is freakin heavy. Had to enlist my kid to help move the blocks out of the way when I got it back down on the ground. I am gonna feel that in the morning for sure. It might have been smarter to assemble everything horizontally vs vertically but I found that the high low gear goes straight in when vertical. Never had good luck when its on its side.

Down right gorgeous! The fitting in is the massive challenge.

Looks awesome.

Does anyone know the cost to expect having someone else rebuild a 4 speed? Mine is fine, but just curious if I was going to have the synchros done I assume may as well rebuild?

Spent a nice sunny day outside cutting new foam for my jump seats and installing the covers I got from Cruiser Corps. For anyone looking for jump seat covers that will match the color of their front seats Cruiser Corps will make them with material you send them. In my case I ordered some lowback bucket seats from TMI and ordered some extra material to cover the jump seats so they would match. Very happy with the results.

Tech tips for anyone else doing the same project. Putting the covers in the sun made the install smoother and easier. I also covered the top and sides of the foam pad with batting material, this filled the gaps nicely and ended up with a smooth fit. For screws I used M3.5x13 stainless oval tapping Philips head screws and M3.5 finish washers from Belmetric.

The drop down support leg I added to the seats turned out well.

Those jump seats look fantastic!

shouldnt be too bad, I already installed a 60 4 spd so my floor was adjusted accordingly. Either way, not really that bad. I went from a 3spd to a 60 4spd with split case. I might have to mod the floor a little and move the fuel lines for the transmission frame brackets. And I will need to lengthen and shorten my drive shafts

I'm guessing here, but thinking $1500.00 or more!
Rick @architectGA just had George @orange45 rebuild two I believe. The costs vary by how bad the transmission is and the expertise involved in the rebuild. Running the right oil helps with the longevity (GL4 vs GL5).
I went with the 5spd as this was the goal all along (3spd to 4spd, now on to the 5spd) and luckily the price dropped at my dealership by $200 so I bought it.

Thanks. The result is due to all the great tips, tricks and experiences of other who post their knowhow here

I found a drain plug and gasket that work on the fuel tank for the red ‘78 (drain plug 90105-12018, gasket 90430-12038), replaced the booster, master cylinder, rotors, calipers, all rubber hoses, and bent and flared 3/4 of the hard lines. Bled it, and drove it to dinner! Less than 6 hours worth of work to get it from out from the lean to and back onto the road under its own power.

Been on the grind for what feels like forever at work, havent had much cruiser time. Finally had a free afternoon before starting night shift tonight. Did a full deep detail, long overdue, and drove it the 60 miles to the jobsite tonight. I love driving this thing.

I silicone sprayed my door latch mechanisms today. I am amazed at the difference. Best mod ive done! So easy to close and open now, no more door slamming or fiddlefking with the interior handle to open the door.

Got up at 4 AM just to replace timing gear cover twice. (I have a bench full of parts/projects ready to install/finish and with 3 little roommates running around, time is limited) The first time forgot to add the little slinger on front of the gear. Left it on the tool bench. Didn't notice until I had the pulley back on, torqued and ready to rock n' roll. I'll take a "W" wherever I can, albeit a small one.

Whatever is worth doing once is worth doing twice!

Nice work on the header wrap. I have considered that as well.

Are those 33x10:50x15 ? Look huge could be the camera. Looks 👍🏻
35x10.5x15

And talking about things that look huge. Check out the excavator bucket in the background. It was literally larger in size than my 40!!!
