As with all projects I went deeper than I planned. I went in to shim up that radiator support but noticed some coolant weeping from the water pump gasket… well why not pull that too I guess! :worms: I love old machines.

Had similar issue with my JTO header, 3 out of 6 leaked. I had to add a weld then grind down to make them all even.

I used remflex gaskets on my inline 250, awesome and took care of leaks. wish i did it earlier. TOYOTA Header/Exhaust Manifold Gasket - https://catalog.remflex.com/TOYOTA_Header_Exhaust_Manifold_Gasket_p/7009a.htm
I’ve got the remflex gasket on the shelf, it’ll definitely be going on, but I can’t bring myself to mounting it until I’ve removed a bunch of the defects.

I'm curious why you ran the exhaust under the frame at the firewall versus above frame like was stock. My 79 has the awful under the frame routing which is stock on 79/80 models with a CAT.

Yeah, not optimal but followed closely to the path of what was there. It’s an 82 that had a cat, so stock routing was over the frame rail (though further up). At some point headers were added and the cat removed. The headers required it to route further back before it crosses over (past the cross member). It still needs to go over the rail, though, because of the stock gas tank location I presume. Candidly, this is not a trail hog anyway (the gx takes the bruises), so I am AOK with it.

After seeing @wngrog add some 4.8” Man a Fre shackles on the Seminole Red build to improve the stance I decided to follow suit. My front end has been a little low since adding the 8274 a few years ago but I was pleased with the ride and didn’t really want to put in heavier front springs - figured this was an easy thing to try first. They lifted the front an inch, which puts my front fenders about 1/2” high than the rears. Looks great to me!

I already had 4 degree shims installed so the caster I lost with the shackles hasn’t adversely affected handling. I did back off the shackle bolt tightness a bit after the initial test drive, feels much better now as the shackles can move more freely. First pic shows the difference between the OME and Man a Fre shackle. A quick adjustment of the drag link got the steering wheel re-centered nicely.

Nice cruiser.
Thank you! Appreciate all the knowledge you’ve shared on this forum, it’s been very helpful for my 40 and 62 builds.

I received my turn signal lights from CCOT this afternoon and I just couldn’t wait to install them, so I slapped them on..!

My lights were very old. The color on the bodies were faded and they had developed rust on the bottom mount. They were also not connected correctly as the side ambers would blink along with the front ambers.

The new lights from CCOT corrected the issue.

The new lights ftom CCOT solved that problem.

I’ve seen all sorts of combinations of solid and blinking. Should I assume this is correct? Solid side marker and white with blinking yellow?

@Soberacho Small details are not really so small, they cumulatively make a huge impact. Truck look great

@Jdc1 may appreciate this one…In an episode of the Honeymooners…Ralph is left a fortune by one of his bus passengers. He and Norton are planing for a million dollars. Ed Norton shows up in Ralph’s apartment with a suitcase with strips of paper cut like bills to equal a million dollars. When Ralph confronted him about his dumb idea…Ed replies. “ it’s the small details Ralphy boy “…

Ok @Jdc1 , It ain’t ‘more cowbell’, but another magic moment. In case you’re wondering, Ralph’s fortune is a parrot whose name is ….’fortune’

The details are what make or break a build. It’s a challenge to stay focused and keep the level up. Some days it’s best to work on something else.

@Xylonmedia There is another header option, but they may have gone up in price since I bought mine in 2020. The Aussie Wildcat Header. Here is one example of them: Header Link. I bought mine from Ebay from seller APS8748. I had some questions after install and he corresponded with me easily through email. One thing to be aware of with this header though is that in Australia they aren't concerned with a steering box on the left side of the vehicle, so it is really close to the steering gear, which is a manual box on my '78. So close in fact that I had to remove the heat shield. I've been daily driving it like that for 3 years now though, so it seems to be okay. 1 quick smack with a ball peen hammer might solve it, but I haven't done that yet. Other than that, it is a quality piece, I installed it with a normal Fram gasket without any planing etc. and it has never leaked. The flange thickness is already metric and seems to be right out of the box. I painted it with VHT paint, but that flaked right off, I probably didn't do it right, another thing to get around to one of these days. Anyway, just thought I would add my experience to see if it helps anyone. Here's a bad picture of it, complete with flaky paint:
