Removed the fender to facilitate installing rebuilt steering box. I knew the PO didn’t disassemble to paint but wasn’t expecting this. And now I can clearly see the brake master is leaking. More of the same.

Added some 4 degree caster shims from @orangefj45 to my 40 a few nights ago (has OME springs and shackles) to improve handling after seeing @wngrog install them on his builds. Steering was a little squirrelly before but not too bad, amazed at how much better it is now though - one of those things I didn’t know I even needed and now couldn’t go without. Very pleased!

Very cool!
Glad the shims made a noticeable improvement, they typically do.
Appreciate you sending business our way. Please keep us in mind if you need anything else.
Happy New year!!!!

I was driving the other day and my clutch dropped to the floor. I managed to get it home and after pressing the clutch in the garage, my garage floor was covered in brake fluid.
I ended up replacing the Clutch Master Cylinder and Slave Cylinder, but the real problem was a bent spring.

I got it up and running today and was happy to enjoy this unseasonably warm New England day in the 40.

Tune up in a can. It's a big can though.
I've had pinging problems for months now. Been retarding the timing to the point it was almost undriveable at idle. Looked at my plugs and decided that carbon build-up might be the problem. Been dribbling this stuff down the carb for a few weeks now. 4 or 5 or 6 times a day, let it die wet, let it sit a bit. Start it up and warm it up and let it smoke a lot.
Must be working, can run the timing at 22 BTDC now with it almost starting to ping.

Changed oil sending unit to OEM Toyota 83520-55011 and got baseline reading with mechanical gauge for peace of mind (60 psi at cold start running Rotella 15W-40, 30 psi at idle at operating temp). Replaced door latch with OEM Toyota 69310-90300. Installed new radiator support rod cushions 90540-10022 and sleeve/tube 90440-11043 to properly square radiator. Measured and adjusted points dwell angle and adjusted carb using lean drop method. Then washed it to sadly put into hibernation due to road salt.

@Ackcruisers did you find a reasonable functioning dwell-reading meter?

Thanks for sharing! I also installed OME not too long ago which I think adds 2.5” lift. I’ve been trying to figure out why the steering felt a bit unstable at higher speeds (still manageable) and your post pointed me to the right stuff to research and read about. I’ll get the shims from Georg and add them when I swap the front axle to a later one with disc brakes (which I also obtained from @orangefj45 ).

Check out this fancy pushrod cover! Getting swapped for the proper thing.
Gotta hand it to the PO the dang thing was glued on so we'll it didn't leak.

I guess if you can't track down the original and need to get moving down the highway, that will work. Was it leaking profusely?
