Finally got time to plug away at the yellow 40. After rear drums rebuilt and all new brake lines on her I put her rear shoes on.
tackled some of the engine today with installing the desmogged carb from city racer. Attached all the carb linkages. Installed newly powder coated breather.
Big thanks to my good friend @swamp-thing for letting me keep his 40 at the house as a template for what goes wher
Cleaned up and painted the axles to get them ready to install new knuckle rebuild components and then attach to the frame.

Came out great. What paint did you choose?

Took my oldest camping outside of town for a quick overnight. She absolutely loves Mr. Myagi and we had a blast cruising FS roads.

New stock bumper to go on the '73. It's going to look much better than the redneck C-channel that's on there now. Still available from Toyota and just a little over $200.

Yesterday I took my 71 restoration for its first real drive. Found a few small issues I was able to fix easily today; blinkers weren’t working but it was an unplugged wire from switch, fuel sending unit wasn’t working but was just gunned up and stuck empty, backup light switch was sticking but I must have a wizard because it seems to have corrected itself. Little more tuning and shakedown runs and I’ll be ready to list it for sale and on the hunt for one to keep!…. Probably….

That’s a great color combo! But, I may be biased toward spring green.

It’s running great! Putting more miles on it today and figured I should stop by my local dealer since I got so many parts from them.

We just purchased the same OEM front bumper and gusset plates. Curious what bolts you used to mount. Is it correct that the mounting is only on the top even thought there are holes on the bottom?
Thanks!

I used stainless carriage bolts on top and yellow zinc from overland metric (extras I had) on bottom.

Thank you for the photo! I think we're in trouble. It looks like the P.O. may have cut off (shortened) the frame. We don't have the bottom mounting bracket. We m

ay have to fabricate something???

It doesn't look like they shortened the frame, but rather they shortened the bumper brackets and then welded the channel straight to that. These hold the bumper out from the frame by a couple inches.

So these look like they are shortened (they fit under the tow hooks):

And these have also probably been modified:

Thanks. I have new upper gusset plates that I purchased from Toyota when I bought the bumper but I don't have the lower brackets. Do you have a part number or know where I can get a pair?
Appreciate very much all of the great help that this forum provides.

Installed the fj40dash.com @fjgoober, upper dash pad tonight. New OEM sleeves and screws as well.
