Making some progress on my FJ40 today..
new top cover for quarter channels... not for the Land Cruiser purists.. budget repair.. but work for me..

clean rusty chennal .. and coat with primer..

Thinking about converting it to an automatic and adding power steering and brakes but $$$$$$$$$$ (?)= would likely take me "years"!

New stock bumper to go on the '73. It's going to look much better than the redneck C-channel that's on there now. Still available from Toyota and just a little over $200.

New OEM bumper installed using Overland Metric fasteners. Easy job.

Wrapped up the drum brake job on all 4 corners and installed some Bilstein 5100’s. Took blue for its longest test drive in years, had a good chase car.

Began stripping down the engine for the older intake manifold and header. Began stripping the sloppy previous owners paint job on the block as well. Only one broken bolt and it gave me enough to weld on a nut!

Spent some time down the rabbit hole after sending my PS box to West Texas Offroad for a rebuild. I can see how this is such a slippery slope now that I don't need to daily the 40 ".... while the steering box is out then I could do a full steering rebuild - and then I should fix the knuckle job I butchered last year - and then if I'm going to cruiser outfitters I could get a period correct brake mc - and then the front main is leaking oil - and then ...."

Thankfully I stopped myself before the body mounts came apart.

If anybody needs to borrow a factory knuckle centering tool, send me a PM

I changed out my windshield seal/gasket. A job but one big part has to be moved out of the way first. I expected my 40 year old seal to be crusty and stiff and it wasn’t? It was very supple and in great condition. It really didn’t need to be changed. I’m thinking maybe some one changed it in the last 20 years?

Finished up the manual steering box swap, and tightened up the new drag link. Took the 40 on probably the longest drive since Ive owned it. It finally drives pretty nice and doesn't wander.
