I started my FJ40 project. The beginning of the year down. Took off the spare tire and bracket, and the rear doors. Must rustier than thought. I had thought about naming it Big Bird since it was originally Mustard yellow, but now it might the Yellow Submarine since it looks like it was stored in the ocean.
We used Strapworks D-ring with clip (1") (SSDRC) and stainless steel loops (1") (SSL). We removed the D-rings from the clips and replaced them with the loops.
The material is authentic canvas duck, same dimensions as OEM. You can see that the loose end is sewn into a point, replicating OEM. This acts like an aglet on a shoelace, to simplify poking the end through the D rings.

We made the "threading" strap 2 inches longer, since I have a repro "old style" tool roll: View attachment 2405211
are those wood blocks with a band clamp on the 3 on the tree? and is that a lava flow in the engine compartment?
and a custom dash pad with the band clamp?

Yes it is a block and band clamp on the tree post.
Don’t know the reasoning.
I am converting it to a 4 speed.
engine bay is mud real.
Yes dash pad seems to be covered over.
it is actually well done.
those things aren’t important to me yet.
getting it started and running and stopping is my main concern for now!
then I will get into the interior.
Went on a double date to the local brewery with my buddy and our wives. He has the 72’, and mine is the 78’ behind him. Summer in the PNW doesn’t suck!

Got it running and took it to my fathers! I’m thrilled! It took a marathon effort Friday night, all day/night yesterday and this morning to finish the harness and rewire, and a couple other tasks to get it moving under its own power again

Hey Slapmak
So I looked Into that block and band clamp.
it looks like it is being used as an alignment block to keep the rod straight. Maybe from binding. That could mean the linkages are worn and they bind.
just a guess!.
Oh.. it take forever.... just only finish a driver's side floor.. this is only 1/8 of the tube...
Not sure if it possible to finish this tube in 3 months... before fall
Haven’t had much time to work on mine lately but today I was able to paint the roof cap and bezel (yes it’s upside down…). Had to do it outside and got a couple bugs but tweezed them out and I think they turned out great!
