What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (53 Viewers)

Are the round ones primarily spots? I’ve been debating on whether to go with these new “laser” lights (vs more traditional LED Pro Comp’s). Seemed like the main benefit was less cost and distance lighting. I’d been looking at these before reading your post:

Those are the same brand (at least the box is the same) as the ones I got. They have laser lights from 4" up to 9". I have had HID spots for a long time and was reluctant to replace them with any LED light on the market because no LED light was able to match the distance of the HID. When I found the laser lights I really took a chance with them but I wasn't too worried because I still had some HIDs I could go back to and I was sure I could sell the lasers if I didn't like them. The laser module in the center of the light is a VERY tight beam pattern. Definitely a spot pattern light. As for distance they have blown away my HIDs so I'm happy with that.

If the lasers were to be your only aux lighting I might suggest something else since the beam is so tight and you might not have as much prereferral light as you'd like. This is why I have the LEDs on the roof. They do an awesome job of throwing a wide light and filling in the area between the truck and where the lasers typically reach in hilly terrain. On flat ground the lasers will cast light as far as any offroad light I've come across. They will definitely have much farther throw than the Pro Comp LED and farther than any other offroad LED I've seen.

The hill is a lot steeper than you can see in the picture. They tried getting up the hill multiple times before I showed up and couldn't make it. They said on their 6th attempt the car stalled out, hit the rock on the side and bounced them backwards toward the drop off.

Definitely a scary moment for them and were lucky the bank was high enough to bottom them out.

Ah! Ok. That makes complete sense. I did the same with my cherokee 20 yrs ago. I was able to go bank side for a stop.

Short 1-night trip through Big Sur to do some camping with some friends. Also had to help a group get un-stuck.

Mounted a front Delta a second time... Got the 12.5 stuffed in there tight! Probably should have considered to alternate mount as I have some LP9 lights ready to go on but likely to use the remote on the winch if ever used..... Didn't want to remove and put back in a 4th time. @Delta VS I think we discussed you can send the bumper with ready to bolt on holes but not sure we finalized this. Can you PM me approximate measurements if you have fitted them? Trying to decide where to locate the lights but not sure much option.

I’ve watched a few of his videos. 1/2 the time he breaks his own vehicles because they are ill prepared or he makes bad decisions.

I guess I don't see him breaking stuff or making "bad" decisions. There are some that I wouldn't make, but it doesn't mean they are bad.

I agree, after only seeing a few of his videos I wasn't impressed. But than I watched a lot of his videos and now I have had a change of impressions.

I haven't really noticed him shaming anyone, if I were in his shoes for a lot of the recoveries he does than there would be some real a**holes comments made.

I think Matt usually has a great attitude and I think he and his crew accuratley represent the culture of local's from the South West corner of Utah.

And he also changed my opinion of those jeep cherokees.

I do respect what Matt does and I don't believe he is actively shaming anyone, but some of the videos I've seen have the perspective of "what was this tourist thinking?" The commentators take it from there.

Rewarded myself for a successful backyard 3000 sq. ft. sod project by taking a weekday trip down a 4x4 road I know to an under the radar fishing spot. Angry brook trout and the river all to myself made for a pretty sweet day out.

Thanks that is very helpful. On another note, have you had any issues with your Toyo MT’s? @samc2447 got some recently for his 80 and said it was undrivable on asphalt. He’d heard it from others too. Swapped for Duratracs after 1000mi. I just put Toyo MT’s on my truck but haven’t noted any issues except they grab well and will tend to oversteer (presumably because they’re new).

Replaced the last 4 upper bushings in the rear. What a PITA. Took nearly 6 hours
Had the pleasure of spending another hour getting the undercoating out of my hair, YUCK!

But she's straight as an arrow now! No more wobbly drive!

Close to the end of our 2 week UT to AZ trip. Currently in Sedona originally planning to do some hikes but it's just so damn hot so most time spent in the airbnb pool.

But the 80 keeps going, sure a bit slow and a bit hot sometimes, but we're getting there. Here's where the 80 took us
- Canyonlands Needles
- Beef Basin, Moon House Ruins
- Valley of the Gods
- Alstrom Pt
- White Pocket in Vermillion Cliffs
- Grand Canyon North, and East

still need to drive back and hit a few spots in CO to cool down

A trip isn't an adventurer without a few snags along the road
- removed my wheel spacer and the slee 2" bumpstop after realizing i got about 3" left of rear downtravel. No bueno when hitting any minor dips on the road.
- do i really need offroad lights and front plates? ha, took both out and woah, my coolant and air temp is back to normal.
with that said, once truck is heat soaked and the coolant purged into the reservoir, the cooling system would struggle to stay below 200 on all the uphills. The trick is to keep the. truck running while filling up gas.
- i just swapped out my charcoal can, but holy pressure build up after a 100deg run on Schneby Hill.
- first time wheeling over 100F, slow crawl on Broken Arrow Trail and the temp got close to 220F on the slowest crawl. Had to keep the rpms up to manage the temp down. I did turn off the AC a few times but wife/kids disapproved. It was around 108F, but hey all the pink jeeps are running open!
- missed out finding a campspot by Grand Canyon on the east side. Got too late, and damn that House Rock rd rattled us. We turned around and ended up in Cliff Dwellers Lodge, best decision ever.

had to take the kids here and cool off. camped away from the crowd up by the sand hills

Alstrom Point, it was nice and cool here

no 80, but White Pocket is way cool not to share.

If you need to cool off, you can head up to the top of Mt Elden (9000 feet) and soak up the view. Easy road up. You can also hit Heart Prairie Rd, just to the west of the Snowbowl ski resort. 7500 feet to 8500 feet. Very shaded and cool. Easy trip. Take 180 heading north to the grand canyon out of Flag. Another easy road but will have some opportunities for exploration and views. Can always hit the snowbowl and take the ski lift up the mountain. Will end above 11k feet.

Thanks, we heading back to CO tomorrow so we'll be cooling off soon. Otherwise it's nice to experience what the locals deal with, plus it's dry heat!!! I OCD on my coolant temps so i am sure i'd go crazy every summer .
