Cut a new tailgate cover out of press board, covered with carpet and installed a marine hatch I got from Bargain Hunt for $4.00.

I was surprised at how shallow the tailgate is and how little space there is in there. I don't know why I was expecting some sort of Klein bottle to be inside the tailgate. I guess all those fancy tailgate storage lids captured my imagination.

How do you get the old panel off? Is it just the plastic clips like the door panels use?

I started with the panel from Amazon below. The volt meter part worked fine but the outlets were too deep to fit in the very shallow space to work with behind that panel. I ended up finding raised mount DC power ports and using right angle flag terminals in the rear to make it all fit. Been in 3 years and no issues.

Search Amazon for Triple Function Dual USB Charger with Digital Volt Meter

Awesome. Thanks for the tips. I've been wanting to do something exactly like that.

Not yet the weekend but I visited nlxtacy’s switch relabel thread to get make labels for an under hood light and the front and rear aux lights. I hope to have them installed his weekend.

Post Death Valley trip found my starting battery had shaken loose and the positive terminal touched the hold down bar and fried my Slee Headlight relays and a few other circuits were acting weird. Ordered up a couple LCP battery brackets since I have that goofy off size 34.View attachment 1937886View attachment 1937887View attachment 1937889

you should turn the battery around so that the terminals are at the back

Took the kids to lunch on the rim in snow. The Arizona Toads that live along the Mogollon Rim were incredibly loud, and pretty cool to listen to. Later, got stuck on a really muddy trail--winched out--nerve racking but it worked.

Then the cables won't reach. Also the positive post will be close to the bottom edge of the hood. This is why the "F" configuration battery comes into play.

Working my way through my IH8MUD to do list.
1. @Fourrunner cables
2. @Photoman alternator upgrade kit
3. @LandCruiserPhil battery hold downs and sway bar disconnects
4. Replace starter
5. Finish plumbing @NLXTACY OBA setup
6. Install @Delta VS control arms and PLB
The best part is my daughter is helping me wrench while she’s on spring break.

Replaced the Overhead DVD player before heading out for a week in the desert with the family. DVD and Bluetooth headphones for the kids makes for some good quiet time for the wife and I on long trips. The last one made it 4 years before failing. Won't read discs any longer. I think all the bouncing around and dust took a toll. Lots of dust inside the unit when I pulled it out last night.

Finished a little wiring that I had started. Wrapped a pretty bad looking shift console at the same time, and looks so much better.
One switch goes to a powered sub-woofer, so I can shut it off easily if wanted. The second switch goes to the panel I mounted in the back. On that switch I'll mount a rear facing light, so I can set up camp in the dark.
