What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (76 Viewers)

Went fishing. And camping in the 80. It rained literally the entire time and didn't get above 45 degrees. But we slammed it on the fishies. So we never got cold or bored. The 80 pulled a small fishing boat just fine. First time pulling anything with the 93. She is a gutless wonder but she made it.

Installed front Slee springs. I had OME 850J coils for about 5 years and just thought I'd switch it up and to match the Slee rears. So far they feel comparable to the J coils...maybe a tad firmer. I guess I'll have to wait til next weekend to try them offroad.

Unfortunately one of the bottom nuts on my Fox Shocks is seized on the shaft. A big bummer since they are less than a year old. Not quite sure how I'll get it off, as I can't hold the shaft in place strong enough to keep it from spinning. Might just use a dremel and try to cut the nut carefully and try to repair the threads on the shaft.

Same thing happened when I installed my Fox shocks. Only on one, but it happened right away. I tried to loosen it to check something and it spun. Probably have to cut it off :(

Charged a/c. Replaced evap and resealed compressor last spring and blew cold all summer, tried it this week and nothing. Snapped a guage on, flat. Brought the gear home from work and leak tested good , no dye showing anywhere I could see. Charged it and could get a ice cream headache in there now, maybe only leaks at -20c? Dunno , I'm sure it will show itself on a summer road trip

Had the other "death wobble" show up in my DS mirror. Nothing a little por15 epoxy can't remedy. Fixed one side and reinforced the other. It required a bit of dremel filing/sanding to get the sides to hang back on the brackets again. Should be good for another 20+ years!

Took off the damage multiplier/brush guard. If anyone in the Sacramento area wants it pm me & it is yours. Sprayed my running board bolts & will remove once I get the proper 13mm angled bolt extractor. I'm too old for a primitive Pete Sunday. Running boards will be free also when removed if anyone wants em.

Maybe a grinder and cutoff wheel to carefully cut the top washer.. then the shaft will push through the axle bracket where you have more room to work? I'd probably cut away the poly bushings and use a pipe wrench on the section of shaft that is normally in the bushings. Also this would allow you to use heat and try spinning the nut further onto some threads you've coated with anti-seize. or try the cutoff wheel to slice the nut in half

Between the two posts in here and how it seemed they were acting last time I had them apart I'll be putting anti-seize on mine soon.

Another snow day here in Colorado. Pulled out another Raptor today (2nd one of the season). Actually have a picture for proof today. Weird he got stuck in the middle of the road and he had a rear locker and couldn't get out. Maybe just a bad driver but I pulled up right to where he was unlocked and was able to pull him out with little trouble. Gotta love the cruiser!

Thanks man, I appreciate the offer! I'm gonna give it another shot today...

Yikes! Do you know what happened? Did you determine if the shaft threads were screwed or if the nut? I'd assume shaft. I still don't know what happened. I know I carefully hand threaded the nut, then spun the rest of the way with my impact wrench on low setting until the bottom bushing just started to bulge a hair. I don't think I've had a fastener do this to me in the last 10+ years. I am very careful since I hate dealing with this kinda thing.

Which springs did you install?

They are the 4" Slee springs. They only have one kind of front 4" springs. The rears I installed were the mediums.

I bought a bunch of Dremel cut off wheels this morning. I am going to cut the nut off and try not to cut the washer too bad. I think I have a few spare thick shock washers though if it comes to it. Then hopefully the nut will come off after I cut it. I have a 1/2-20 die which I'll use to hopefully clean up the threads.... who knows, I might need to send them back to DSM for a fix.

I had installed these shocks I think in June of last year. They went on no problem. Then yesterday was the first time I had to deal with removing the bottom nut to let my axle drop. I took off the nuts, they came right off. Drivers side went back on no problem, and then I installed the passenger side, and it too went on without an issue. I then realized the PS spring was not seated into my 20mm top MAF spacer, and so I tried to take off the shock nut again to drop the axle on that side to try and slide it on correctly. That's when the damn nut wouldn't spin!!! I used 2 different impact wrenches and they were locking up!!! Used vise grips to hold the bottom mount in place, and nope. I don't think I've ever had this happen to me.

I honestly don't know. I can only guess I put it on too tight and messed up the nut. Not something I've ever done either though.

Edit- I'm guessing something to do with the nylock portion of the nut.

Hmm. Do they have the 1/4 button head on the bottom of the stem to hold them while you turn the nut? Not that it would have mattered if an impact wouldn't budge them.

Nice looking rig! I could have sold you my Slee fronts, they have been collecting dust under my work bench.

How about a profile shot on level ground?

Went to do the two minute shaky mirror fix. Had zip ties all ready to go. Undid the screw in the bottom of the mirror and took the mirror out. Nothing broken. Just one of the openings was off the hook. The PO had epoxied it before and it is holding up just fine. Bottom line: NO MORE SHAKY MIRROR!

I had these little brackets lying around so mounted my compressor using some stock holes..

Went to check out the local HWY 84 widening project. Found a nice dirt pile to flex on...
