Tested my trailer wiring harness in prep for a trip tomorrow. Only lights that worked were the tail lights. No hazards, brake or turn signal lights.

I have never towed with it before and PO said he had not either. I pull the passenger inside panel to see what I've got and turns out to be a Lexus factory taillight converter (5 to 4 wire). all neatly installed with no spliced wires. Just plug and play.

No frayed wires or obvious problems. All connections solid. All lights work on the truck so out comes the multimeter. Getting proper voltage before the converter but not after. It looks port or dealer installed and had a tag on it with a '97 date. I'm guessing the converter crapped out after all these years.

Anyone experienced this before? Are these still available or do I have to go aftermarket? Pic of the offending black box

FYI - Local Lexus dealer parts guy said NLA with zeros across the board for warehouse stock. oh, 00526-60961, how I miss thee.

EDIT: 1997 Lexus LX 450 Trailer Wiring | etrailer.com Aftermarket option for later model FZJ80's.

I don't carry a floor jack, spare fuel, and a full complement of tools because I'm concerned about my 80 breaking down. I carry them because others aren't as prepared.

Fun fact, the SAAB jack won't fit under the lift point with a fully flat front right tire.

Also, the lug studs on this SAAB had to be torqued to 120-130 ft/lbs. Had to use a 24" breaker bar and 3' pipe from the floor jack to get them to crack free.

Special pleasure in helping him because he wasn't physically able to do it himself. As you can see by the stickers, he's given enough.

Are those315/75/17? Look nice. My Fox shocks had a hole for a allen wrench on the end of the shaft. Does yours have that?

Thanks. They are 315/75r16 on 3.5" BS wheels... My Fox shocks have a flat area on the bottom to hold with a 3/8" wrench, as well as flat spots on the topside of the bottom mount to hold with a 7/8" wrench (hard as hell to keep a wrench on it though) . Even with a 12" pipe wrench wedged against the frame and two impact wrenches the nut doesn't budge at all... I'm planning on cutting notches in the nut and splitting it with a punch. Right now it's on there and doesn't need to be fixed at the moment so I'm putting it off :)

Final week with my 80. Stuff junk parts into her, took some last nuts and bolts off of her. And off to the scrap yard it goes....

Such an important part of my life. Tough to get rid of her. But with my impending move to Colorado at the end of the month, her time is now over and off to the recyclers she goes....

I totally agree, I hadnt just finished winching a liquored up jeep driver off a cliffs edge, and then past 3 young ladies on the side of a mountain with a flat tire and grossly overtightened lug nuts. I prepare because others do not, and yet i come across the un prepared in the worst palces. carry on.

Got out wheeling with some friends on Sunday, about an hour and a half from the city to get into the Canadian Shield, rocks, trees, lakes and streams, wish I could live there! Put the new armor to the test, found out my winch doesn't work under load (possible solenoid failure?), learned that I shouldn't follow a truck on 35's through the bogs in the same tracks when I only have 33's (got hgh centered a couple times), and ran some trails, had a blast!
