What did you do with your 60 this weekend? (41 Viewers)

I had cruise control in my 60 when I bought it. I never could get it to work so I just ignored it for years until one day it kicked on and reved the engine up to redline in about six seconds. Couldn’t figure out for the life of me what caused it. Would hit the brakes and it would go back to idle. Then would tap the gas and it would redline again. Finally pulled over and messed with the linkage and realized the cruise control was working intermittently and not at all safe for the engine. I’m glad it didn’t cause a crash. I ripped that sucker out immediately. Never again on a carburetor.
was it one of those aftermarket black box cruise controls? I had one in an old pickup and while it didnt do what you describe, it would work once out of every 10 times you tried it ha

Haha i mean you can always add it...

My 3rd gen tacoma was probably the worst vehicle ive ever owned, tied with my 2017 STI limited. When my wife drove it and asked if it was broken because when she pressed the gas and nothing hppened, i knew it was time to sell it.
When this engine swap makes more progress it's on the list of things to do.
Interesting. I love my taco.
Mine was just ok. There wasn't anything that set it apart from my 60 that I couldn't just add to the 60. And the tacoma feels weird for tall drivers, I felt like my head was in the ceiling of the truck.

By the time I lifted it, put on a bed cover, etc I would've just built what the 60 was already.

Turkey bay is Sxs heaven these days unfortunately. Its almost not even fun in a normal 4x4 now because its been so rutted up by the sxs

@Thechief86 Who needs an 80 with coils when ya got flex like that? Looking good!

New rear hatch struts. No more hitting my head.

@Skreddy Sweet work! How did you get the old struts off?
Unscrewed the ball studs with them in the strut. New struts only came with 2 new ball studs so used a hacksaw to cut the end of the old struts to get those ball studs out and reused 1 old one from each strut. If that makes any sense.

Going to be putting some 80 axles under my truck thanks to @TRAIL TAILOR ... The 80 axles are like 4 or 5 inches wider or so than the 60 axles. I very accurately and professionally installed these flares from australia for mock up to see how theyll look. Hopefully theyll take up some of the extra width the 80 axles are going to give me. These wheels offset will pull them in as much as i can on the axle, so with the flares they should, in theory match up pretty well.

As it sits in the pics, there are 1.25 inch wheel spacers on my wheels because the wheels were bought with specs for the 80 axles that are going in so theyll stick out a little bit further than this. Hopefully not too much further.

They are just white gel coat, they need to be sanded and painted before they can be installed. Sliding cargo windows should be here any day. Just need to find a high roof to graft over and put a turbo in it and i can live my LHD V8 HJ60 dreams.

I even have the oem mud flaps for the fender flares to go on as well

Very cool. Always like the flares on a 60

I'm in the midst of a cooling system and AC refresh. I finished up my radio install the other day, and while I had the dash out, I popped the evaporator and blower motor down and cleaned up the housings with new felt and foam. I put in a new evaporator and expansion valve.

While I was removing the suction line from the firewall, the threads pulled on the evaporator and kicked up the threads for the hose. I did a bunch of looking around on here and found a few threads that kind of contradict each other along with my end result. People in the FJ60 A/C Hoses - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj60-a-c-hoses.933917/page-2 thread are stating that hose is a m22x1.5 or m22x1.75 (no 1.75 female o ring fitting seems to exist) I took my new evap and the suction side fitting to Nebar hose and fitting in Ballard (Seattle) and talked with Bruce. We tried a 22x1.5 and found it only threaded in like 1 thread. The 1.75 pitch gauge was close but not solid but the 7/8- 14 threaded on perfectly. The last post in the thread I mentioned suggested that but there is so much more metric part numbers flying around that one might overlook the standard hose diameter.

With that detour handled, I started in on swapping the compressor, 3 new OEM belts, a new water pump, thermostat and a bunch of coolant hoses that were ballooned and screwed up from using worm clamps. When I pulled my thermostat, I got a gooey surprise in the form of gelling and corrosion in the thermostat housing. The upper o ring was also decimated.

I cleaned all of that out with a wire brush and will toss it in my ultrasonic cleaner later today. Here's how it looks after the brushing. I think this came from using hard water and the car sitting for years at a time? Low quality coolant? I'm not 100% on why. The water pump block hole looked fine, and so did the lower thermostat housing portion.

I'm hoping to get it all back together by Monday but we'll see what the weekend has in store as far as family stuff.

I'm pretty sure my clutch is fried....I'm seriously considering dropping in a new h55 since I'm having the clutch done and get that main seal to not leak anymore.
