Yes the grand baby was helping and sketched me a road map on the side so I would not get lost putting it back together.

Nice job, did you have any problems aligning everything. I was worried about the tailgate and rear door, all closing right.

Thanks Ron,

Four days sitting in my favorite chair drinking beer staring at it, three days measuring the openings with five different tape measures, plenty of head scratching then two days of making sparks and everything looks to fit. I still need to fit the side glass but the opening measures square and the correct size so I’m not anticipating any issues.


Luckily the Pigs have ½” door gaps to start so that helped. :beer:

The body work has been done for a while and I’ve been waiting for a day when it’s not so f’in cold so I can paint. That's not looking like it's going to happen soon so I decided to tackle the rear end rebuild.

Basically I’m replacing everything again with new parts, bearings, gaskets hoping to avoid any issues. Gears got cryogenically treated this time and I’m hoping this set will last longer than 28 miles.



New RCV 300M axles with a seal surface area the same size as the front inner axle so I can run my bearings dry this time around

I machined the spindles for the Marlin Crawler heavy duty front inner axle “EcoSeals”.

Run them dry, meaning packed in wheel bearing grease like the front? If that's correct, then what's your thoughts on how you had them before? Oil leaks or ?

Yes I ran the last set “wet” and the caps on the RCV hub flanges leaked, I believe that running the bearings in oil is a better option than grease but not worth the trouble when my front run hubs run in grease so that was the reasoning behind making the change now. If I was going to do it now was the time, RCV needed to make another set of shafts anyway so adding the seal area to them and machining the spindles to accept the seals was easy at this point but would have been costly later.

No but it did get warm enough that I could get the shop warm enough for the paint to cure. I’ve been running the fire place in the shop nonstop for three days to keep it above 55*
