Here it is restored. I drove it for several years with the rust. You really can't leave a cruiser with patina while continuing to use it. The rust will just get worse and more cancerous.

Owned and driven as my only DD for the past 29 years... 500k+
It’s been rehabbed a few times now ... this time I will be replacing my sills soon ... I tried to hold onto them for as long as I could but they’re totally shot now. Not much left on the truck that’s actually the original steel the whole back has been redone with 3/16 inch plate steel and on the floor is 1/8 inch plate steel.
Wheeled it hard.... drive it hard ... rolled it bad... love it ... it’s a cruiser

It's amazing how far Dirtbag has come! Love seeing it in there. They had the hard top glued on with silicone, apparently...
The top was fused to the entire tub with silicone and possibly plaster. It took awhile to get everything seperated.

So many people worry about their skill level bringing these old heaps back to life.
Remember, it usually took 20-30 years of abuse to get them in this condition so being an enthusiast that has a little sense can make the winds of time slow down very fast without being a skilled welder or body man.
Stop the rust.
Fill the holes that fill up with mud and water.
Use filler and body tape to finish it.
Done.
Save your body and paint money for a good set of brakes or a new carburetor.

Pressure wash. Let it dry.
Plastic wash brush to get off any residual dirt and flakes.
Air nozzle to get the dust away.
Hose it down with Rust Converter

Spent the weekend scrubbing my FJ45 with CLR [Calcium Lime Rust] and a scotchbrite.
Really woke up the 51 year old red paint that was left on the truck.
