Since the magnuson supercharger kits are back I was just about to pull the trigger when I saw you can get a kit from bullet cars in Australia. Their kit comes with a water to air intercooler 2 extra injectors and a piggy back ecu. Does anyone have experience with this kit? They told me it would be around 7k usd to get the kit to my door in kansas. They also claim it can make way more power than the trd. Here’s a link Supercharger for 4.5L 6 cylinder 1FZ-FE - Bullet Cars and 4WD - https://bulletcars.com/product/supercharger-for-4-5l-6-cylinder-1fz-fe/?srsltid=AfmBOooVWNp4bgRfbvVSlRCDkTrXQiah0bXXTAN-y_LuWDh5kVoalsYA

I've seen one in person and was really impressed by it. Here's a video of one in a 79 with some figures.

Just bare in mind you'll need aftermarket ECU and a tune with the Bullet kit. It's a higher performing kit than the Magnuson but with that comes the need for engine management. The magnuson kits are designed for the original ECU/Tune.

Maybe i missed it, but in Bullet cars ad you provided, i don't see an intake manifold listed in the parts that come with their kit, In the photo in their ad it shows a different intake manifold then whats on our trucks here in the states, so that may add to the cost of installing/buying their kit too,

The engine in the pic is a second generation 1FZ - different intake, wasted spark coil pack ignition rather than distributor etc. Found in FZJ105 and FZJ7# 1999 and newer.

Check that they are including plumbing for an 80, but I have seen the kits on 80s so assume they can provide this.

When I talked to the guy on the phone he said they would send a higher flowing intank fuel pump along with the piggy back ecu that can not only adjust the extra injectors but it can also adjust all 6 stock ones and timing. I guess I don’t understand why everyone gets the magnuson that costs more but doesn’t come with an intercooler or engine management? Is it for simplicity? Why would simplicity cost more?

Well I think I’m gonna go ahead with this kit unless anyone can convince me I shouldn’t. Iv seen a lot of threads of people trying to make intercooler systems for the trd and this kit comes with one and is cheaper

Yeah I just had the motor completely rebuilt. ARP head studs and cometic head gasket. What can I say I like my cruiser a lot more than these new trucks
I'm not saying get a new truck. But motor rebuild + super charger sets you back what.... 12k-15k? That's motor swap territory. Plenty of 2UZ's out there.

There's also the coolest option:

I know I really considered my options. The issue is my head gasket blew a couple years ago and I ended up getting a complete motor rebuild with arp head studs and cometic head gasket so it felt like a waste not to boost this. Also have you seen some of the 1fz-fe build in the Middle East? Pretty bad ass

Also I talked with bullet cars again today and they had me send some pics of my maf sensor and engine bay. He said my maf sensor and exhaust manifold are good for airflow but even if I had older years they could put together a kit that would work. It seems they can change the kit to fit whatever you have. He also said they’re supercharger can be installed with no tuning but he highly advised against that. He said stock pulley makes 5psi and they have pulleys that go all the way up to 14 psi. He advised me the trd supercharger is much smaller so 5 psi on their supercharger is a lot more power. Hence the need for the piggy back ecu

I’m not sure but I think a guy bought that kit here in Grand Junction and it was missing things and was not able to install it on North American 80. Customer was going to get rear of the parts and never came back? This was couple years ago so may have changed

Is this what you’re referring to?

The magnuson kit is CARB compliant that’s why the price tag, also stateside support and warranty is another thing to consider. I say why waste the money on a small gain when you can turbo? You already have the valve train beefed up. Either way you will be happy with some more ponies! For 1k more you get double the HP and Torque than that kit?

I originally wanted a turbo but turbos get hot have lag and are more suited for high revving motors. I always thought turbos on these didn’t really make since. Compared to a supercharger. Don’t get me wrong I like turbos I have a 600hp mazdaspeed6

Bro, our tractor engines love high revs . Turbo makes a lot of sense. Reach out to @Cruisers and Co. I too thought I wanted SC as well and after researching and weighing my options, sourcing, and available support....i went Turbo. Plus I am supporting a US based small company.

Ohh yeah those middle east LC are turboed!

Also reach out to @Dirty Koala, who owned both SC and Turbo.....he will say Turbo all the way!
