The 6.7 block is just .5" taller. I've installed a 6.7 commonrail in an 80. 2nd gen manifold swapped it and with a billet valve cover the fit was great.
5.9 cr is fantastic. I just see an overabundance of 6.7's on the market compared to 5.9...
The late model 5.9 commonrail is arguably the best motor Cummins has made…plus the block being the same size as the rest of the 5.9’s helps with fitment and packaging into an 80 series engine bay.
You can get a stand alone from painless, but only for the early commonrail (03-04.5). We are building 06 motors, and will be modifying those painless harnesses to work with the 06 ecu’s. We wanted the late model motors so we can use EFI live to...
So I have been pretty quiet here for sometime now, but it’s now officially time to bring this thread back to life with Cummins swap 2.0
I decided about a year ago to not put the 6BT back in this 80, but rather to get my hands on a Commonrail 5.9...
Reviving an old thread.
I am getting ready to swap a 15BFT 4.1L Toyota diesel into my BJ42. I am likely going to swap out the tiny stock turbo for something that flows better. An HX30 is one that comes to mind. Anyone have experience with...
OK, what we know as of today is the TRD Pro and Trailhunter 4Runner have the 9.5” diff, there was also a Limited on display and it was the 8.2”. Now, I must emphasize, this is not a published spec, rather what I saw by laying on the ground...

We are doing pretty good! Last week when driving back from Austin to SLC I punched in OLC4x4 to see if it was anywhere near my route…unfortunately it would have added another 7 hours of driving. Maybe down that way next month.
FYI, I’ve installed one of the 5 into our 60 with 500000 miles to replace a 13Bt that my great friend @orangefj45 installed 20 years ago. The thing is a beast. You put it in 5th gear and can tow a train climbing the sierras. I’m getting 25 mpg...
Great times, glad I was able to make a trip out of the motor pickup and get to hang out with you all. Can’t wait to get cracking on the 15BFT swap into my ‘82 BJ42.
Then took a drive to the Texas Round Up in Katemcy Rocks, TX to meet Bill @bkcruiser and pick up a bunch of parts that Georg @orangefj45 sent for the BJ42, including the newly assembled transmission and Split Case with the gears that my brother...
Then took another little nice break and Galen @bottombracket and I went to meet Morgan @Dirty Koala and Lee @Outsane for dinner:
Followed by a quick trip to AJ's Yotas to see Alvaro @aljollano and load up Morgan's Toyota 15BFT, which...
Then started taking apart the truck to get ready for a transmission swap for the H55/Split Case that Georg built for us. Since not too many things were really completely bolted to the truck, and a lot of the fabricated parts needed cleaning and...
A little technical information that I learned from my friend JimC @FJ40Jim.
When doing a 60-series conversion on a 40, keeping the 60-series pitman arm can lead to interference with the arm/steering bar and the leaf springs. Jim recommends using...
