I have been (and still am) looking for a genuine Toyota rear axle vent, it is the longer one that also holds the brake line tee to the axle also. I was also wanting to extend the vent instead of having it right on top of the axle, so I was also looking for one of these:
No luck so far, so I started looking at other options. The Dodge and ford trucks had a similar fitting, only the threads are 7/16-20, not M10x1.25.
These two threads are very nearly the same pitch (1.27 and 1.25) but 7/16 is a few hundredths larger in diameter than the 10mm. So I bought the bronco one, cut off the unthreaded portion and ran the m10x1.25 die down over the threads. It didn't turn out too bad:
The length under the nut part is about 1". Thought I had hit a home run, but alas it wasn't to be, the shoulder part is too fat to fit thru the brake tee so I will have to grind/file/turn the shoulder down or drill out the tee, neither option is good. If anyone has a shade tree mechanic method of turning something down without a lathe please share. I want this to be a simple project.
I have one of these diesel compression fittings that fits in a glow plug hole that has the correct threads, so that is my next try this weekend. It is also about 1" from the nut to the bottom of the threads.
