Here are the two compared.

I looked at 1013 as well - I had compared the two against my original (cleaned up as much as I could) in sunlight and shade and decided to go with 9010 as a close match. End of the day it’s really personal opinion. The 1013 was a bit too creamy IMO.

In person it looks more white, but when you look at the chip above compared to the 9010 I can see what you mean about it being creamy. I thought the original color was a creamy color, but you said you had an original sample you compared it against and ended up with the 9010. If my guy has 9010 I will give that a try, if not then I guess it will be 1013. Do you have a pic of your wheels?

Go back a page and look at my post from Jan of last year. The lighting is off a bit, but you can see the new wheels in sun. It’s an off-white, but not cream. I did my bezel at the same time. Now just want to do the top - but that would require me to redo the liner 😵‍💫

RAL 7036 compared to original paint OEM wheel on the driveway.

The loose wheel is dated Aug 1978, was purchased from a Toyota dealer for $5 (new FJ40 buyers were opting for optional bigger tires and needed wider wheels), This wheel has been stored in a cellar for years, so the paint has aged but definitely hasn't faded due to UV.

Could you take a picture of the whole cruiser please? My cruiser is the same color and was planning on keeping mine black but after going through the posts I’m starting to think otherwise. Thanks

I'll look for some pics tonight. There is still salt on the roads here in MA, so my truck is still under a cover in the garage

Rims:
E-60 body color
61-67 black rims
68-72/73 gray rims
72/73 - 7/80 gray outside only
8/80-84 white wagon wheels

I wanted to dig into this a little bit - not trying to "fact check" just collect data for my restoration. The "72/73 - 7/80 gray outside only". I've been reviewing original 1978 FJ40's and I have yet to find an original 1978 FJ40 with black inside, gray outside. All original trucks are gray both sides, even with original Dunlop Snow Cruisers on them.

From an original 02/78 FJ40:

I will have to look into that

There are other trucks of the same year gray inside? Original … could you send me links

It very well could have had a change for a time

Toyota is notorious for changing the production … even mid year … most notably the “Toyota Way” is centered around kaizen … continuously improving their production even from their vendors… change better

I responded to this thread in post #73.

Detailed pictures of my "survivor" wheel are below. Date code 878. Gray on outside, black on inside.

Thanks to all the great info on this thread. I chose the RAL 9010 pure white for my 16x6 wheels and have them paired with Toyo MT 255/85R16's. Wheels have a slight antique look in the garage but a nice white pop in sun light. Very happy with the look.
