C&C recommended a tranny cooler to address that. They are coming out with dual Aux tranny cooler-front mounted.
Yeah saw the cooler. Looks like 2 tied together. I’m just wondering with all the heat transfer of intercooler and dual transmission coolers if that will affect the cooling of the radiator. I know by having one of the Binks prototype bumpers with a winch it seems to have affected my airflow to the radiator.

The winch is mounted a lot higher compared to the ARBs and my cooling system is pretty solid. The 4.88 gears I’m assuming makes a difference also at highway speeds and hot weather as everyone else was running cooler with low mounted winches and stock gears and 35’s. The 4.88’s I’m revving a bit higher. Just what I noticed during summer coming back through Livermore.

Quick update here on the Stage 1 Turbo. I have about 2k miles on it and just finished a trip from Portland to Bend Oregon (500+ miles) with a ton of steep inclines through the mountain passes.

The truck is completely transformed. Often I’m using the full 7psi of boost but even with lower RPM’s the truck is comfortable at highway speeds around 70-80mph with plenty of passing ability. Drives similar to a 200 series and I’m going to install the intercooler kit down the road. Huge vote of confidence in @Cruisers and Co and this kit. Johnny was amazing during the install and helped me (mostly @Fj80oregon ) with the install. There is a lot more detail on my build in my 🌵🌙 thread but for the next build I’m going Stage 2 😆😉

Time to get a new valve cover decal. It’s missing the T.

Anyone get the intercooler yet? Curious about performance and any impact to temps!
Had a truck with one running around Denver this week. 98 degree ambient. 12 lbs of boost on a standalone ecu that is not fully tuned. Truck is fully built running 37's and full overlanding load out, she's heavy... Max temp we saw on a long pull was 146 degrees under full load/boost. IAT Sensor is mounted in the intake manifold on this truck

Let's just say I'm waiting patiently to get mine
Your patience has been noticed and is much appreciated  We've been trying to get these out the door.

Would be interested to see if this was with or without a snorkel.

I didn’t see anything about it, but did you try any other turbos before settling on the G30-660 variant? A JDM turbo tuner I trust thinks the G25-550 may be a better match; a really fast spool with our displacement, especially with lower boost, and plenty of headroom if one wanted to crank it up with standalone and intercooling.

I’m personally interested in giving it a shot, along with standalone piggyback (full sequential, COPs, etc) while keeping the boost relatively low, as I plan to keep my rig relatively light.

A G25 turbo is going to be WAY too small. That is a 48mm compressor wheel and even Garrett only recommends it for 1.4-3.0L engines. It has been several years but I posted all of the compressor maps and where you would need to fall on the map to run say 8psi. Your shaft speed would be very high and efficiency would be maybe 68%.

They are running a Pulsar 6682 which would be between a Garrett G30-900 and G35-1050

I think the thought process was the instant spool for crawl torque, especially in low range, not necessarily power gains through the range. I guess he’s messed with smaller turbos on LS and diesels with some success. It wasn’t a deep dive by any means, just something he threw out, with how good modern turbos are nowadays. He works on a lot of Pikes Peak cars and has been messing with rock buggies lately, so he knows some things.

Just asking questions!

If anyone who reads this has installed this turbo kit themselves please PM me at your convenience so I can pick your brain. Thanks

We have tried 4 different sizes of turbos. This kit was designed to work with a factory ecu and as such could not come on too early. We have also used this turbo in a stage 2 fashion and it does really really well and covers the whole range. Running 12 lbs right now on that truck with IC and standalone ecu and it tears up the highway. Took the Eisenhower tunnel (11K ft) last Sunday doing 80 mph without breaking a sweat in a fully built 80 on 37's and 4.56's.

As a semi local you should stop by some time.

Oh and for the IC guys (yes they are going out soon)... 90 degree day, full load ripping up I70 and Berthoud Pass at 12 lbs of boost highest IAT logged was 116F.

Thanks Johnny.
Any more details and prospects on the Stage 2 kit?
