Time to start a build thread for my 1986 FJ62 (Australian spec). Going to do a body off chassis bare metal respray and interior re-trim. Mechanically the old girl runs well so will just get a mechanical cleanup. I'm already a fair way into the body and eliminating the rust. Hoping to have it back on the road this coming Christmas. Been videoing some of the progress.

Where it started.

Beginning the body work. Replaced the right quarter panel which had been pushed in, was rusted and full of bog/bondo. Also gave me access to properly repair some rust on the inner wheel arch.

It is a bit of a mission but toiling away in the shed working on the 62 is kind of therapeutic at the same time.

More rust removal. This time the drivers A pillar which was in pretty bad shape.

Well after assessing the rust in the roof and cutting a few section it was evident there was rust in the inner rails that would require significant work. Was able to source a new turret locally which will make the job easier and give a nice clean rust free finish. The roof should outlive me now.

Got some high fill primer on all the swinging panels. That's the body all but finished and ready for paint.

Genuine roof skins are actually still available from Toyota, although at a hefty price. I actually got this one from a guy who bought it for his 60 but ended up doing a full body swap.

Chassis has been off to and returned from being sandblasted. It's now a fresh, clean canvas to start the rebuild

Got the chassis painted. 2 coats of black 2k epoxy primer and 3 of satin black 2k polyurethane. Going to paint the diffs later this week then thing will actually start going back together. Feels like a real turning point in the build.
