Well 15 years after I sadly sold my 62, I was very very lucky and scored a great deal on an awesome (in my opinion) 62! Apparently the PO bought it from someone on mud several years ago, he is looking for the members name now.

Details below, but first thing to deal with is the death wobble! Here is what the PO said:

"... at speeds between 35 - 45 mph a bump will sometimes induce a front end shimmy/shake that is pretty unpleasant."

On the test drive I intentionally hit a bump with the drivers tire at 40 mph and she did jerk pretty good until I hit the brakes. Other than that, it seems to steer and drive just fine. I took it on the highway today with no issues. He did try a few things: Knuckle Rebuild, new TREs, new steering damper, new wheels and tires including balance and alignment. He had a shop do the above work, he is not a wrencher. So, any thoughts? I plan on jacking the front end up and testing the wheel bearings. Anything else to look at?

Thanks all!!! So excited....

OK...

The good:
158k miles
Engine, Transmission, Transfer Case are all in good working order.
Interior is probably a 6.5/10 - better than most, but certainly not perfect.
ARB front bumper, 4x4 Labs rear bumper (with can holder for 2x5 gal jerry cans), White Knuckle Sliders.
Toyota Steel Wheels
Knuckles rebuilt a few years ago
Newish-head unit (cd player and aux input)
Gauges and dash lights all seem to work.
Frame seems solid; nothing more than surface rust that I have seen.

The less good:
AC works, but will need a recharge.
Lock actuators need help.
Driver side rear door is stuck locked - I've been reluctant to pull the door panel as I didn't want to damage anything prior to selling it.
Windows are slow, but go up and down.
Some rust/bubbling on the gutter seam near the top of the rear hatch. I really hope I can track down the PO on mud, the only rust I have found is above the rear hatch. The body and frame and everything underneath looks really good, like it was gone through or something...

Anyway, thanks all!

Check leaf bushings. Make sure everything is torqued. Check the wheel bearings.

Purely aesthetic but I see this on many 62’s with that ARB bumper, lower it by one position on the brackets. You’ll be amazed by what having the headlights centered in the opening does for the symmetry up front. Allows for light to hit the ground sooner as well. My 62 has that bumper and that bugged me until I fixed it and was amazed at what a huge difference that subtle adjustment made.

Nice truck.

Thank you!! I knew there was something a little off about the look from the front. I need to take a look at how it is installed but that sounds line a pretty easy fix. I need to see about adding a winch, too

I added my winch 90* off axis.
Can take pictures if you want.

Yes please!

Minor updates :)

1 is the truck was sideswiped in front of my house by a drunk driver. Luckily the police had to show up when she totaled someone elses car a block away so her insurance is covering at least some of the damage. Anyway, the adjuster was looking at trying to find the brand of the rear bumper to get a quote on replacing it. Anyone have any ideas?

Also a clue I think about the death wobble. A buddy noticed the 2 front wheels seem like they are at different heights...the driver's side is less than 22 inches from the hub to the fender, but the passenger side is over 24 inches. The shackle lengths look a little funky too. Attached are some pics. Looks like the axle needs to be recentered?

Anyway, thanks all!

Looks like some mods were done to the hangers. They look quite different than mine, and reversed. (Edit: added pic)

Definitely modified. Can't find a picture right now, but it seems someone extended the hangers down in some areas and added shackles to the hanger end in some areas.
