Amazon carb post:@knuckle47 I have to agree with your sentiment re this forum, its truly been a blessing with all the ppl in the sty willing to help and offer all sorts of information and more. This is just another wonderful example of this. I really appreciate your offer and after I piece this latest effort back together and see if it that works,(or not) I may take you up on your offer.
I honestly was not prepared for the amount of time/effort that this piece of the pig puzzle would take. The good news is I know quite a bit more about potential issues with these original carbs that I did before I started as well as a fair idea on how to solve them. That said, its just one small piece and obviously is related to valves, timing, dizzy etc. Also, After reading @Aloha Jen 's recent post about the new Amazon carb, the few brain cells I have are spinning about what's gonna be the final final here re this. I'll be in touch either way. Again Really appreciate the offer.
I'm off to a visit a few sty members![]()

Did you lose oil pressure?Sadly the fun didn't last too long. Time for some surgery. Gonna drop the pan and see what the hell went on w the latest
engine interruption. Sounded like a bearing spun but I'll need to identify the source. maybe the oil pump or regulator. Doesn't sound like these fail to often though. Plenty of oil so perhaps it is the oil pump. Any suggestions on what to look for once pan is dropped aside from anything obvious?
well, I did find that the belt was loose and maybe, that was the cause of the engine getting hot in the first place. Ran fine after tightening the belt until I went out again and put the engine under load, than it cut out and seemed to seize. I was able to coast home and then after it cooled I was able to turn it over but this def requires getting a bit greasy to see what's going on.Check your belt tension.
I had a very bearing spinning-esque sort of noise and I determined it to be my belt slipping periodically.
I think it was mostly when my regulator points closed and loaded my alternator it would slip the belt.
Fwiw the belt was probably original equipment 1972 vintage.
Maybe give it a check before you make an oily mess by pulling down the pan.
Shouldn't take but a minute.
I lose oil pressure all of the time due to a wire on the sender which works itself loose. So yes, but no...Did you lose oil pressure?
Wasnt paying attention but after the initial clunking noise/tow home, I tightened belt and test drive w/no drop in pressure that I can remember. Not sure after that last drive.Did you lose oil pressure?
yeah I am hoping its a mangled bearing and the crank is ok. The bigger question is, why did that happen w/ plenty of oil. failed oil pump? oil regulator? Those are some big chunks. I'd start pulling conn-rod caps hoping that's where the chunks came from.
