Piece of pie.
You have lots of friends up there that would be happy to help!
True, I could get it done. Wondering how far I will need to take this. Based on the findings, am I looking at taking the rest of the engine apart including the top end?
Hoping to stick to the bottom only but guessing I may have to investigate once I get it out to determine the scope.

That much metal I’d be looking at everything…🤷🏼‍♂️

Hate to see this for ya! Early 2f ?

Trying to figure what I may have to help. Long ways away but I have 2 f in 40 project, turns but outside of that no idea what shape it is. Also have running F in the 69 when I get it back

its an 1F , 71 manuf date
Hate for you to be down for a bit and it will be a ways away but price will be right for ya!

69 has original f engine. Runs and drove great. Still runs but needs tune up from what I hear.

Drove it frequently before it went over eternal body shop. As I think you read, it’s a month away….

You're in a tough spot, my condolences. It's hard to tell why it happened until you find exactly what has happened. I have never heard of an oilpump failing, much more common to have a dizzy shaft back out. Maybe dump that shrapnel out of your oilpan, is it magnetic? Clean it up and try to figure out what it was. It looks a little much to be just a rod bearing.
It's been 21 years since I built my engine, parts were a lot easier to find back then. I did just do a valve job last year, OEM valves were very to find if not NLA. I'm not sure I would even try to rebuild an F engine even if I could find new oversize pistons and rings and stuff, I would put my money in to a Late F or 2F just to get the improved oiling system, they pretty much bolt right in and last forever so far. Used to be that everyone knew someone who had an old 2F sitting around. Maybe not so much anymore but that's what I would be looking for.

yeah, not sure a rebuild would make sense. But yes, I am a bit surprised on how much metal there is in the pan, I'll try a magnet later today.
I never changed out the oil but there was plenty in there and looked clean before this happened. So much for these motors being indestructible. I do have a Delco- Remy dizzy and I'll need to look if it backed out but I dont think that's the case. Aside from better oil delivery and power steering bolt holes on the later 2f's what other benefits are there? I guess parts are a bit easier to come by too.

I was offered a perfectly running f motor which is an option I am considering but perhaps a 2f would make more sense. At this point not even sure if I would need pistons until I dig in a bit more. but I do like the idea of having the original motor. that said, upgrades that are done well usually add value like others have already stated. Items like a 2f, H55F, AC etc.
