The tentative plan is to make it up there. Around the 1st of the year. I'll let you know for sure.
Poop. I'll be swearing at the traffic on the 405 right about then.

That sounds "fun"...
Yeah...

Camping at the beach for New Years though. So theres that. I'd rather be in Joshua Tree.
:meh:

Went to the Land Cruiser museum in downtown Salt Lake. All I can say is WOW. I'm pretty new to this world but that was like jumping off the high dive. What an incredible place. Thanks @cruiseroutfit!

Also got my new OME shocks installed in the rear. Took me several hours... but I did it! Sheared off the top of the shock so I had to get a neighbor with air tools to help me get the old brackets on the new shocks. Also changed the oil, fi my sunroof leak, and took off the crappy running boards.

Getting ready for the front axle rebuild. Got the wheels off & about to dive in. Going to take my sweet time and stretch it out over the Christmas break. I think I am ready. I've watched every video and read every thread out there. Thanks to all who contribute to this forum!

Me and my boy took the 80 to play on our local hill and she was cutting out real bad once I had it at steep angles. Would start lunging and bucking if I held the skinny steady. Any thoughts on what I should be looking at? I do have a full tank of fuel.

Installed the Slee 4" rear medium springs. Left: OME 864; Right: Slee 4".
Differences:
Wire Diameter: OME = 19.75mm, Slee = 21.25mm
Coil Wraps: OME = 7, Slee = 8

They are essentially the same free height. Slee might be about .25" taller. To match my OME 850J coils in the front, I had to add a 1" spacer to the Slee springs. I am sitting pretty level now. These springs are very similar in appearance.

The main difference so far is the ride. Slee springs are much more "plush" even though the wire diameter is thicker. Assuming the extra coil wrap attributes to the ride quality. OME 864's were a bit rough even with a load. So far the Slee seem really nice. Will have to see how they handle extra weight when I load up the truck.

Trail Tailor adjustable upper and lower rear control arms installed today. Installed them first with the Johnny Joints at the axle. Jason then recommended putting the joints at the frame end so I turned them all around tonight.
I'm good at swapping control arms now. (Not that it's that difficult to begin with).

I'll write a review on these after I get some trail miles on them. Hope to get a few hundred dirt miles in January.

Thanks @reevesci for the arms.

Ok so I've got my knuckles pulled apart, pull the axles out. On both sides its a soupy green mess. The soupy green stuff is completely inside the differential & knuckle housings. I'm thinking that while the axle seals were bad and diff oil leaked into the knuckle housings, the diff breather might also be clogged which pulled grease into the diff. Tried to take a pic but phone died. But it looks like a mix of diff oil & grease all throughout the entire front end.

So... what do I do? Should I clean the entire inside of my diff? Does that mean I have to take it apart? :frown: Thanks!

You don't have to take the diff completely apart, but I would pull both birfields out, take the fill and drain plugs out of the diff and get a few cans of brake cleaner and flush the diff out, use the plastic straw to really move around and get as much as you can out. Let everything dry out, do your birfield jobs, check your breather make sure it's clear, put your drain plug back in and fill with cheap gear oil. Put your fill plug in, run it for 300-500 miles and drain it again and fill with good gear oil and you should be all set.

Next time!?!?! There definitely will not be a next time for me on the ice....will be staying with warm sand and non frozen water from here on out.

You need to embrace the ice.....

Yes this is me....

Did some electrical work. Which is generally not a good thing. However I have never had anything light on fire...yet.

Started by trimming the dash panel in my truck with a dremel to fit my gauge. Always use eye pro, because I dont. Also dont gouge it too far, because I did.

Then wire stuff together constant hot from the battery. I surprisingly fused it on the hot lead, which is really rare for me to actually do. The 80 is changing me, things are only marginally getting cobbled together...

After driving it, i would probably move my rear heater switch over to the left and punch out the center and left for voltage gauges. If I could. My steering wheel obscures the view when driving. When I toss a second battery in ill be using the other blank spot for a second gauge.
