Selling my 78 FJ40- a very solid and strong running truck. It has 99K miles on it and looks it. The previous owner did a lot of work to this truck and invested a lot of money in it, and it shows by its looks and performance. Ask anyone who has seen and/or ridden in it- John Merkey, Jeff Dozier, Matt Reed- to see how nice this 40 is.
The body is in excellent condition, right now the top is off and it sports a real nice bikini top. No rust anywhere on the tub and the frame is excellent. Fenders were new OEM Toyota, only rust I see is one bubble on the very bottom of the bib. No rust showing there, just bubbled a bit. I have a 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 that I've gotten about 90% done building. This is an EXCELLENT FJ40 and it runs flawlessly!! It needs lights and blinker work taken care of. I have what's needed to have it legal but the blinkers aren't working, blows the fuse every time I try. I was going to get a new flasher for it. This thing is 98% rust free (was just down to the bare metal and it was clean) and it'll start right up every time! I have a solid, running and drivable 78 FJ40, a complete 78 parts truck, and an 85 FJ60 with a solid drive train. All these must go. I would prefer to sell as a package.
The 78 driver, is from Utah and is very solid. It's not perfect, but would be a great driver or wheeler. There are some bubbles on the rockers, and that's about it. The floors are perfect. The front fenders look like they've been repaired with a bit of bondo. Mechanically, it could use a little tuning. I've driven it a half dozen times to work, and have not had any problems. That's about a 40 mile round trip. The only thing I've noticed is the idle will change. Some days it idles perfect, other days...

My friend wants to sell his stock 1971 FJ40. His father drove it until he drove it through highschool and beyond. His family has grown so it no longer fits his needs.

I ran down to take a look at it.
As you read, the engine hasn’t run, I tried rolling it in 3rd to get it to turn, then hooked up a jump starter, lights worked, the motor appears to be frozen up. It wouldn’t budge. Mileage is 28k (+or minus 100k) Valve cover leaks, battery was dated 97, radiator was full, carb was dry. Air filter was brand new, spark plugs are new. Electrical under the hood is complete, doesn’t look weathered or cracked up too much. Transfer case felt good. 3 on the tree shifted smooth. Steering box had obvious leak, front axles and undercarriage looked good. Frame only had surface rust. No pitting rust at all underneath.

Engine: Stock 4.2 Liter 2F engine. Not rebuilt. Strong compression, no oil burn, no knocks. Starts and runs well. Exhaust has a "tick" some place close to exhuast manifold. Stock carburator with all emission control systems intact. The exhaust is not original and was not routed correctly (i.e. was not run above the skid plate). If I were keeping the vehicle I think this is something I would change. The engine runs cool on highway and in traffic.
Electrical: 100% functional. Lights, signals, charging system...
