Started doing body work on my tub. I figured I'd start small since I've never attempted sheet metal work. 6 of the bolts which hold the hard top down snapped off in the body rail. They were small enough that if I tried to drill them out I'd just end up stripping them out. I tried welding them up but still no luck so I took the long way around.

For the first time in since 2007 I have a new to me FJ 40 in the drive. It is a mostly stock 75 minimal rust and mostly all there. I am leaning towards a preservation vs modification or restoration like I did on her predicesor.

liked the rear disc conversion on the green 68 so much, that I converted on my own tan 82

Hated the look of the brand-new aftermarket hood side cushions that I installed last month (because one of my old ones was cracked). Here's the LH-side to show how far out-of-spec they are:

And here's the genuine Toyota replacement (at more than twice the price but still well worth it, especially in comparison):

And in keeping with my act of smashing the rubbish sealed beams I recently bought , my brand-new aftermarket trash side-cushions have just been given the scissor treatment (because I hammer wouldn't quite create the same level of destruction)! :D

Incorrectly proportioned aftermarket side-rubbers like these are apparently a worldwide problem at the moment with many different vendors selling them. So I advise extreme caution if you plan on going in the aftermarket direction no matter where you live.

You're safe if you choose OEM though ... You'll need two of course and the part number is 53349-90300 and Toyota call it:

BUMPER, FENDER TO HOOD

I had the same drama with rubbers from roodog, I just assumed Toyota wouldn't stock them anymore. I'll be grabbing some now though, cheers Tom.

I like that! 6.2 or 6.5? This pic shows that although it is tight there is room for two batteries, and still have a hydroboost. By the way, what did that hydroboost come out of? Do you have more pics, from multiple different angles, of how things fit in there? How about what you did to fit everything in there? Maybe a link to a build thread?

Oh it doesn't, but some beers later, it was persuaded in there:beer:. The Metaltech fenders gave some additional clearances for the turbo although a newer center mounted turbo would be beneficial. I haven't brought myself to do a writeup, but the suspension is all FJ80 including the factory radius arms(flipped ontop the axle housing). I'm nearly done assembling after paint, but I'll get some photos of the 6.5. Most people hate on the 6.5, buts in an incredible motor that has a bad rep.

Hydroboost is out of a 93 Chevy 2500- same truck the engine is out of.

This was the initial fitment phase......like I said, doesn't really fit. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be more than happy to answer. I'm still waiting on a the 6.2/6.5 haters to chime in here any moment :flipoff2:
