After nearly two years, I took my wife for her first ride in it -- we took it to an outdoor party where it got a lot of attention. She was impressed (that it ran well) and said that the previous owner is smiling down from heaven that it's on the road again. :)

Installed some jump seats and bought another 40

Started the weekend installing some jump seats in my 71

Ended bringing a 78 home in fairly good condition

interested: I tried that and couldn't find a position where the rod clamps would not interfere with each rod moving - had to take the 4+ relay rod out again and run the stock relay rod with the 4+ tie rod - just could never fit both HD rods together

got any pics ?

I have the stock manual steering set-up

I think everyone has that same issue. I did mine a couple of years ago and haven't had any issues. They rub but not bad.

Mostly finished up my roll bar rack. I mounted the four LED Floodpods from the group buy, wired them up including a switch panel and a temp cable that plugs into the 12v socket for now until I get the secondary electrical sorted out later.

Then I started working on e-locker circuits. I bought the toggle switches for the above and the relays for the e-locker circuit at a local electronics surplus place for cheap. I came across an e-locker harness I didn't even know I had, added split-loom covering and it's now all buttoned up on the bottom end, front and rear, including the cheesy stock metal covers. They really deserve some little skid plates.

The relays punch nicely into a prototype PCB board I had around. There is a ton of little wires to solder with my big ugly soldering gun. I might be halfway through now.

I have a half-assed plan to have a hand-throttle and the e-locker switch mounted to the shifter. Pics in a week or so if it works out.

Made a diamond plate tailgate so I can remove the rear doors and cut the brackets off my rear 60 axle ready for new seals and bearings. Need to order them this week.

They do touch, but the steering seems fine. I will look at more closely this week when I get it on the road.

thanks - let me know how it goes

Got my doors hung on the '72 now I just have to put all of the guts back in the doors. I figured it would be easier with them on the truck than laying down.

The lesson learned from this exercise - mount just the hinges to the cowl and then bolt the doors to the hinges already on the truck.

I found it easier to separate the hinges, bolt the 1 half to the door then rest the door on the cowl hinges and slide the pins in. That way you only have to f with two pins vice 6 bolts while holding the. Then, once its adjusted, you never touch the door bolts again. Trick: slip the top door pin in from the bottom.

More Rust and Crud... arggg.

How does such a clean rig have so many rusted parts? Is that all since it arrived in the northeast?

I like your ox bow mesh; heating grate? I may steel your idea.

As long as u stay 10' away everything looks great. After 30 years it needs a little attention.:o

After languishing for six long months, FINALLY got my 71 back on the road. Completely tore out the OEM wiring harness and replaced with Coolerman-supplied wire and connectors. During this project I deleted the heater and added LED tail lights... I'm really happy with the way this turned out.

New Blue Sea fuse panel and where's the heater?

Finally got to drive it around in this awesome weather we're having. Just went into town to get some parts for my wife's truck, and some other little bits for projects... but it was nice to get out and drive it again. Even saw another FJ40 on a trailer heading up to play for the weekend I guess. I really want to take my cruiser camping this weekend... but just can't justify paying 3 times the fuel bill for it to sit in a paved campground at a state park. :(

Pulled out my Toyota CB radio and put in a cobra.

Changed both diffs and tcase oil, doing the trans tomorrow.

Added a PS cooler and swapped from ATF to PS fluid in hopes to fix my steering issues once it gets hot on the trail.

Got a spare tire finally. Haven't decided if I'm going to get a tire carrier and buy a matching spare or just buy a cheap steel wheel and give the tire to my dad after Rubithon for his jeep.

Mounted 1 half door finally after having them sit in the garage for 2 years. Waiting on the correct latches from CCOT before mounting the other.
