Hey DrSlug, your shorty looks to be in great shape! I haven't been down to Bribie yet, but it's on my to-do list. How was the beach condition?

Thanks for that, It's not too bad from afar, still have to get rid of some rust on below the rear doors and then repaint the lot.

Yeah it is good up there, especially cause it's only an hour from my place. The surf club has a great feed and cheap beer, seem to always be able to snag a parking spot which is good. The crossing onto the beach is pretty good, but sometimes you will get some knucklehead stuck in a Subaru or something there, which can hold up getting onto the beach. Was held up there for an hour coming back off the beach a while back by some guy who had bogged his brand new Nissan X-Trail across the track.

Sing out when your heading up that way and we can catch up for a brew at the Surf Club, always good to meet up with fellow mudders

I broke my first birf

after 7 years of wheeling it hard

Broke a U-joint. Kurt has the replacement on the way!

damn man!

I hope you did not get stuck too far out :)

any symptoms before it gave up the ghost?

nope; had heard a ping a few obstacles earlier, but couldn't reproduce it - the bad grinding noise started just as I came across the Golden Crack  - had the experts with me, and since I carried a spare pre-packed shaft/birf assembly, was rolling again like 45 minutes later :D

what you can't see well is that there is a crack at every ball groove

before this, I took a 3.5 day trip around the Capitol Reef and northern Lake Powell area by myself :steer:

then wheeled at Cruise Moab - this happened on Thursday - wheeled some more :steer: and drove 500 miles home on Sunday - 400 of those with 30 mph headwind  - I found it amazing that the truck can still run 75 steady under those conditions :steer:

trip report with pics in preparation

Top off & steelies

Took the top off last weekend and then slipped out of work early yesterday to pick up my steelies and have them mounted up. The narrower rims stood my 10.50 31's nice and tall. Next week starts cancer surgery on the rear sill and quarter panels.

Took Olive for a long drive today, to visit an old friend(teebag).
Then he took her for a spin which will hopefully inspire him to get back into his own FJ resto that he has been neglecting :p

Turned it upside down!

Cruising the mountainside in the mother land......

Hi All:

D*mn Claudia, you did that Birfield and some! :grinpimp:

When I blew one 3 - 4 years ago it was just the star that went! :frown:

Better save some $$ for Longfields! Just saying . . . . . :D

Regards,

Alan

Hi All:

Have not done anything this week on my own '40, but did help a friend install a Vortec V-8, NV4500 transmission, and Orion t-case into his '76 FJ40 today! :D

Regards,

Alan

Put it to work, had some fun

Yanked out some shrubbery on my property. Took the top and doors off, folded the windshield and went for a burger at Five Guys!:flipoff2:

Saw another FJ40 on the street, how rare is that!
