What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (36 Viewers)

Last week l sanded, wire brushed and began grinding/treating the rust areas on the inside of the utes bed in preparation for a complete rust coating & raptor finish. l also attempted to strip the bumper for prep & re-spraying which after 5 coates of a fairly acidic paint remover (Nitro-mores) didn't even blister..so the 1-2mm of 'enameled' paint is going to need grinding off... fun times.

The week before.... l replaced the handbrake set up (again)..after finding the 'new' shoe retaining pin had spat its horseshoe retainer off & both had dropped down into the bottom of the brake drum leaving me with no handbrake. the 2 original hardened pins were fine, seems there's a lack of height/width on the new pin & the steel material used to make the shoes is soft, as the shoe pin eye had elongated causing the pin to slide/move excessively to the point the horseshoe clip was spat off...(sent an email raising the issue to my supplier with no reply as yet).

This coming week, it seems as of 10am l have a diesel leak ( or maybe the vanilla scent is deluding my senses).. anyway the ute's began to play up at start up on friday..turns over but won't start, (l had a fuel filter light flickering at idle & thought l'd change the fuel filter (old 1 had done 20k - 1yr old)..then l decided to remove/clean/check the sedimenter... it came off fine, had some crap in the base & the float was sticky, so cleaned it all up, checked it..refitted it, bled the system & the lights still coming on. Right now l'll live with it...in the meantime l'll be hunting down whether its drawing in air...l bled it on Friday & it started/ran fine over the weekend....

Here's a question for you.... my earth lead (which l previously removed/cleaned & refitted, l also cleaned the engine connection) has a grey/red crust appearing... which it didn't have before..any thoughts ?.

How many times can I spam my running board project?😜

Put in a fusible link I ordered from @Coolerman

Also was able to replace the original socket as the old one was broken. Easy to swap out…I did have to drill new holes on the socket to align with the firewall holes. Additional details/measurements in my thread.

Washed it.
Living under/around maples it gets covered in the black sooty mold.

This is truly a horrible job. I am starting to reflect on my choice of sand blasting this myself.
With that said, I recalled an episode @BenjaminCA where he used a drill and a long round stock to make a channel sweep. I got some nylon round brushes from Amazon and welded it on an 6’ length of round stock and went to town on the inner frame. Worked well on the areas where there wasn’t any DIY frame coating from PO. I got a long screw driver and removed the chunky stuff.
For the sand blaster, I’ve done all the mods and I am using coal slag or black sand from Menards. The blaster is temperamental, but it works.

I did the same thing and it took off and on several weeks. Air compressor couldn't keep up, sand blaster was leaking, sweating my a$$ off (Las Vegas in the summer). Definitely would have been nice to pay someone to do it, but was nice once it was done.

Bought the seats recently from @clrussell

I wanted to repaint the backs. When I took them off I realized it still had the surround leather on it. Not really an easy way to clean it and reattach so I bought some edge trim..luckily I bought the exact correct fit. Goes on easily, bends around the corners and is pushed in firm so it will never come off by itself. New rear covers and headliner on order.

I painted the backs the same color as my wheels and rear seat frames. Front seat frames will get painted as well. Rustoleum Farm and Implememt Massey Ferguson Grey

I like the trim on the seat backs.

My scout p/s steering box started leaking out the steering shaft input seal. I figured it was time rebuild/reseal it. So far, no more leaking.
