@charliemeyer007 Didn’t you say you got this master cylinder line for the clutch? Any pics of it routed? Seems like 65” might be a lot for a short run.

That is what I bought and installed on my 76…. Fit perfect and I liked the fact it was braided SS. Have had it installed nearly 3yrs now.

Took her for a gar run.

Should have also mentioned that I did remove the hard lines (mine were crusty) but I re-used the same brackets on the firewall to route the new line over and down to the slave.

Any pics of how you routed it? 65” seems too long as my slave is directly below the master cylinder. Not sure if that is how all of the FJ40s are.

dont have pics at the moment…. but on a ‘76 the slave is on the passenger side of the bell housing (opposite side of the master)

from the listing:
“This is great line to plumb your clutch system. Fits 4 speed FJ40's, 75-83 and 81-87 FJ60's.”

Looks like this is the shorter option:

Not in the 40, but, if you need a replacement Delco knob, here is an idea. I also have the 1/4-20 nut with tapped hole for a 6-32 socket head cap screw on my camp stove, as both of the knobs were broken off on the gas valves. Use a low-grade or low-class nut - I broke a couple of taps doing this, and it might be from running it thru mild-carbon steel.

Great imagination! End goal accomplished with long-term durability

Ah, that would be why it is 65” long…my 1964 was originally a 3 speed, later converted to a 4 speed, but the slave cylinder must not have moved. So that 35” will work. I might just keep the line I have.

The good news is the wiring looms back in & the ute starts 1st turn of the key... but.. the ignition still isn't switching off, the CD players not working now & the passenger (L/H) flasher is blinking away faster than the drivers side...everything else is working.
Ignition wise l've ordered a pull stop cable (l've rigged up something else meantime)... l've rechecked the CD wiring/relay/fuses & the wiring loom/connections its all connected ok..(so l'm kinda groping in the dark & l've the scars to prove it.)...Anyway l bought aftermarket front indicators which transpired to have 2 right hand internal units, so after a bit of a switcheroo and a rewire & modify the internal earths before install. l suspect the passenger side needs a proper earth cable to the inner wing, it didn't have 1 before. l'll add an internal wire & run it into the engine bay & see if that works....

After some thought l suspect as far as the CD player goes, there's possibly an internal break in the Aux power supply wire somewhere that l took from the lighter which still works (?) & the main supply is connected via fuse to the battery & its earthed..

Interestingly in the midst of doing the wiring loom l found 4 previous repairs to the white/blue alternator cable, which looped past what must've been an internal break & reconnected to the alt cable abt 8 inches away.... so someone's 'been here before'......l think the new loom l was considering..maybe fast approaching on the horizon....l'm awaiting the quote for it.
And just as an aside, l've ordered a new header pipe...mine has a crack reappeared between the 2-1 connection which was previously repaired. (badly)..

Next up, the ute goes in for its MOT (road safety check) on wednesday, officially 3 weeks before its exempt from ever having to have 1 again & the road tax exemption kicks in too...

Weather reached low 50's today - before the 'snow' comes on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so I took Goose for a Beer Run. Very mild winter here on the Wasatch Back, bummer for skiing. Getting the MTB's ready to ride along with a few adjustments to the FJ40 before summer arrives.

She seemed a little tired - which was left over from last summer; I think the engine is long in the tooth. Idled smooth, ran okay but had more blue smoke than normal. I am religious about starting Goose every 2-3-weeks, getting her up to operating temperature and she is stored in a heated garage. However, at 52 years it is somewhat expected.

Hope everyone is doing great
