I love this little shot I got recently back of my wife checking out the epic surf and the salt wagon fj40. This shot was taken with a Nikon f5 + 35mm f2d lens and some kodak proimage 100 film.

Recently? As in 1974? It looks exactly like the day to day photos we took in those days. Could it be that it is because of actual film used for the shot and it comes through even when put into electronic format. Maybe just the subject matter; pretty girl and a long stretch of beach... blew a lot of film on that.

Finally ditching my 'placeholder' fuel tank and load tray and building my own tank and tray back. It's coming together nicely. Still a fair bit to do but liking the look so far

haha nope like a month ago. I shoot a lot of film. I just like the process. Old teq. Very similar in the way that us land cruiser nuts love driving a 50 year old vehicle. (in my case 60 years old) Film does convey a nostalgic look for sure. I certainly struggle with the cost of film and going to a fully digital work flow. But I have yet to find a digital camera that I feel captures the same feel as a film photograph. The other side is the cameras from yesteryear are fantasticly built machines to last that are almost romantic in a sense. Again very much like the fj40. simple machines that just work. I know the day is coming where I cant afford the cost of film and I think as an artist thats hard for me. anyways I could go on for hours on this. I am going to try a fujifilm gfx 50r and see if thats a good digital substatute. (i have a hasselblad 907x but I am not liking it really)

The hasselblad 907x digtial camera kinda feels like a SWC film camera and the digital back will even work on the film camera but it still misses the mark a little I think. I like fujifilms layout and their simulations especially black and white are great. Fun fact the digital hasselblad I have and the fuji gfx 50r have the same exact sensor.

My FJ40 saved us in a way I didn’t expect this week. We live in the Asheville area…and as most of you know we had catastrophic flooding due to Hurricane Helene. The first pic is a few months back…the field in front of the 40 is a soccer field….the 2nd pic is the same soccer field on Friday. Luckily we are safe, but many were not lucky.

So how did the 40 save us? I had a full tank of gas in it that I was able to siphon out to put in my 200 series so that we could evacuate. We were not in a flood area due to the location of our house, but we did have downed trees, etc. Still no power, cell service, water, etc.

I plan on getting out when we return to get as much debris and trees cut down out of yards in the community. It is truly sad what we saw first hand.

It is heartbreaking. We didn’t understand the magnitude until we got out as there is no cell service, internet, power, etc. The only info coming in was from the radio and they were basically just saying ‘supplies are coming’.

It is absolutely heartbreaking. I have been hearing whole small communities are gone. A friend of mine has been out with a chainsaw helping people. An elderly couple was stuck a mile or two up a road they had to chainsaw somthing like 150 - 200 downed trees to get to them.

Chimney Rock…the small town is gone. Biltmore Village is destroyed. I cut trees out of driveways all day Saturday until I couldn’t anymore (back issues). I’ll be back at it once we return.

Changing the subject: machine shop called, head pressure tested good so they are decking it.

Pulled my pitman arm and replaced the seal, Timken 710070 did the trick

That GFX is a beast, too!!!

I have an adapter for my old glass to work with my Fuji. Amazed at the difference that "old" coated lenses make.

Easy on the Poli Tics. That can get this thread nuked real fast.
Absolutely terrible how bad the damage was from this.
It just keeps us on our toes that any of us could be on the bad end of a catastrophy at any minute. Reguardless of were we live.
I have been on the rescue side of several of these situations. It is knowo where as easy as it would seem to be to get help, supplies, what ever in to these areas. Then add in the loop holes different agencies have to jump through and it only compounds the problem.
