Beautiful ! Love the color
Didn’t want Desert Tan anymore but wanted to stick with an actual FJ40 color. So I went with this although I really liked the white and green also.

Secured the T and flex line to the ‘76 axle on the front of my +/- July ‘74. I say +/- because there are more donor parts than original… I lost count after 36… probably about 45 donors now. The steering pump alone was built out of 3 pumps.
Should hold it securely. Even beating on it with a hammer to “adjust” it will barely make it move.
When the weather is a touch dryer I’ll hit the axle with a splash of paint and it’ll be “done”.

Drained the radiator, transmission, and transfer case. Removed the transmission tunnel and drive shafts. Up next, remove the transmission and transfer case. Lots of cleaning in my future!
They are always so caked in grease! the worst to clean off.

Looks like mine did, PO used Chocolate Milk in the transmission!

Is that part number just the mirror or the whole assembly?
I’ll have to find the mod thread. I really do hate those plastic mirrors. They crack to fast here in Arizona..

Its the mirror head itself only, modified to fit factory arm via Dremel tool.

That is the exact reason I did this!
My passenger side has the cracks from overtightening in an effort to get it to stay put.
Nice piece of heavy OEM goodness for not a lot of cash.
That is often a sign of water in the oil from water crossings. When I bought my 73 Ford 30 years ago that's what came out of the transfer case. A tear down revealed it needed a rebuild as it had rust scored bearings and races, the rest of the parts could be cleaned up and reused.

My PS mirror was a floppy mess and cracked at all the pinch points. Would never stand at attention, as it were.
While these are a tad smaller, they are convex and really improve the Field Of View, plus they are metal where it counts.
I completely agree that this is one of those cheap and easy mods that pay dividends far higher than the cost of entry.
