What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

My BJ40 doesn't have a fuel cap door so the fuel cap is exposed. I decided to make a fuel cap lanyard to give it a vintage look so I made the lanyard using a small bronze chain link and a couple of swivel clips. To mount the lanyard to the body I fabricated a bracket out of Kydex I've been working with kydex for many years and as a side-hustle I make and sell stock comb risers for specific rifles.

The bracket is secured to the body by the bottom bolt in the full cap housing. I think it came out okay..

Nifty idea only I'd think might the chain abrade the paint at speed?

I thought about that. I could shorten the chain a bit and easily heat and move the bracket tip out about 1/2 " making the chain hang away from the body...

What about coating it? Maybe with some heat shrink or something similar

Or maybe nylon chain/wire? (I agree the metal chain, even if shortened, will scratch the paint - but like the idea )

It shouldn’t be an issue if I shorten the chain enough to just loop a few links onto the bracket. As I posted previously the chain connecting point on the bracket will be adjusted and spaced further away from the body.

I didn’t really do anything but I did learn what a ‘flushing tee’ is. After seeing this knob every time I opened the hood I finally took the time to learn about it. My plan is to remove it in the near future. FYI - the photo is actually upside-down for ease of reading.

@RMD3050 Goodness …. I have not seen one of these in over 25 years… I had one on my 1974 FJ40 back in 1977. I never thought about it afterwards but once that plastic T gets brittle……SNAP

That’s my concern. I have no idea how old it must be …… and the hoses.

Put some clean hose over the chain.

Installed an S10 fuel tank

Then I found out you can’t reverse the springs without hitting the tank so out it went.
Have another project I will use it on.

It was manufactured in November 1971 so I don't know if I have a 1971 or 1972 FJ40. I did add A/C so I can drive it in the Summer and got a Holley EFI Sniper (although I have no clue what anything other than RPM means).
