Took in some hot springs post storm and now sitting in a conex box at our test facility. Has been sitting at -6° here….cant wait for it to get back to 0 or higher…..I’m glad I’m not @rkymtnflyfisher

Truck runs great, definitely need to dump the 20w50 for cold starts but I’ve been lazy.

I might try to start my 40 today, that's a big MIGHT. Had to do some emergency fuel treatment on the Dodge last night, now that it runs I can focus on the 40.


Maybe.

With a little help from the ol Cummins powered Dodge, the Cruiser is alive and running again. Brought it up to temperature and let it idle for a while, then took it on a short drive to blow the snow off of it. I'll see how it does tomorrow morning when I get ready for work.


Although I'm probably going to park it back in the garage.
 
I've recently replaced the speedo cable curing the infamous jumpy needle. I now have a solid steady needle registering accurate MPH. I also sanded and coated the rear leaf springs and replaced the suspension bushings, shackles and spring pins, It made an enormous difference in muting road noise and my BJ40 now has a much softer ride. Will do the same to the front suspension in the next few days. I also intend to replace all the shocks.

Well, that answers a question I’ve been asking myself. Was about to switch away from 20w50, but if it’s still working for you in a Montana winter, I’m thinking it should still be fine in the Deep South (even as cold as it’s been)

For the past 9 years, here in GA, I've been running 20w50 all year around on the '86 2F I had totally rebuilt. This choice of oil weight came from the engine builder's recommendation. On cold days I do let the coolant temp warm up to over 90 degrees, via the Sniper screen, before I drive. It is 14 degrees here this morning and will be driving it today for some errands. :hillbilly:
 
Rebuilt & restored a 2/76 Asian Carburetor 21100-61032. Also, got tired of the PO’s fuel line and decided to make a new one. Since I upgraded my fuel pump to the 1979+ 23100-61050 type, I only need to make a single pipe. Used 5/16” cupro -nickel tubing to recreate OEM # 23811-610311 fuel line. I also have stainless steel and regular steel tubing and nothing compares to the cupro-nickel in terms of appearance and ease of shaping. I used 3/16 brake line to create the template and it made it easier.

The’76 axle is in. 3.70 diff from a newer 60. Inner axles in. Brake lines plumed. Finally coming down the home stretch.

Still needs fluids, bracket for brake line T, trim U-bolts, and brakes bled.

I have a FF in the back and had swapped in 3.70 gears 8ish years ago. I’m running 33x10.50 BFG ATs which results in 4th being about a 25% overdrive.

With a SBC this setup works great for me. 50 mph is now 2000 rpm versus 40 mph being 2000 rpm. There is a small trade off for lower speed wheeling, but with today’s fuel prices, and my current lifestyle, I’m not doing serious crawling and I’m more interested in getting out there than getting over the biggest obstacle.

It’ll still start in second gear high range and first doesn’t seem quite as low. With the width of the power and I’ve got, I don’t need to shift once in 2nd or 3rd for every little thing. It’ll still do 10 mph in 4th if I’m so inclined.
