Wow. That is a far cry from what we have to go through.

That is slick!!!I have started to build complete ball and socket style accelerator linkage sets using all new oem parts and some restored ones ....
the 2 rods and NOS , and the fire wall bracket is all new rubber and metal parts too
there is a advantage to this set up
it can be installed on any fj40 w/ 2F 1/75 - 1984
and less wearable parts too ....
Toyota shifted to this set up in 8/80 - later
but mine is 100% period correct faithful
down to the new OEM hair pin !

Removed distributor to properly position it as the Colombian restorer put it in wrong. While at it, installed new vacuum advancer, knob, cap and rotor. Timed engine and it’s running perfectly. What’s interesting is engine operating temps have come down. Not sure why operating temps are impacted...

Discovered the 4 bolts securing j30 transmission to bell housing were not correct size. The bolts would not torqued to spec. The restorer used 1/2-20 bolts which caused 2-3 mm movement when truck and suspension flexed when under load and climbing or going over mounds. A pretty big build mistake in a critical structural area. Have no idea why anyone would install these and say “ good enough”?
The OEM bolts are Grade 5, M13x1.50x40. OEM Part #91112-5130 still available from Toyota. Was able to get two installed but need to tap the other two and waiting for M13 tap.

The “restorer” did not build to my standards that’s for sure. Spent past 7 months correcting to spec and working my way through each system. Some of the work Is outlined here. After going through the process, it is clear why the cost of a properly restored truck Is high.Retarded timing will make an engine run hot. Sounds like you got it set right. Also sounds like the "restorer" had no idea what he was doing.

Going to learn why timing retard will impact operating temps.
On the aggregate, I agree. FJ Company does amazing restoration/builds in Colombia. During my search, many importers with SA connections claimed their “shop” had ex FJ Co employees working for them. See my thread with FJ Company here. I thought I got lucky with my truck bought at auction.Retarded timing will make an engine run hot, every time.
"Restorer" and "Columbian" do not belong together in the same sentence.
Edited: @Chuckha62 beat me to it!
Got the front perches off ready to get them straightened out and painted. Just waiting for the last of the bushings then it will never look the same. 2.5 inches higher in the front and disc brakes up front.I know I already posted this on an other thread for the build progress for Uma but i got the butt lift done on her with 2.5 inch lift from pro comp. 2 days later and i am just as stoked about it as I was on Saturday.

I had to relocate a spare front axle from my trailer to the back yard today. That thing is heavy it squated the front down some

More knob porn...
I have settled on my first sets design. Much closer to stock in size and shape. But completely redesigned in Fusion 360 from the ground up. Then they are resin 3D printed. The printed originals are then used to make master molds.
The middle "ear" is more pronounced and sits higher. The ribs are cleaner.
All of the knobs pictured are the new design. The wiper knob is the exact same new design, but scaled-down with the text flipped 180.
The FD knob is based off an original casting and remains the same as OEM.
I will also be able to customize each knob based on mounting requirements. I can install threaded inserts for 2 to 5mm threaded shafts. I can also add a set screw if needed.
Last pic shows profile similar to OEM.
That's for sure. Back when I worked in the oil industry, a co-worker of mine often commented on the capabilities of bidders on our large offshore platform fabrication contracts. Milton used to say "Anyone with a gin pole truck and a welding machine thinks they can build an offshore platform."A gin pole is a handy thing!

Nice looking 40. I'm pretty sure the license plate bracket on a 76 goes on the passenger side. Scroll down the list. The albums are in chronological order.Just back from the Registry of Motor Vehicles to finally register my truck. Installed front license plate bracket OEM#75101-60011, still available from Toyota. My experience was different than Dizzy’s. The experience in my very blue state was similar to going through customs in China or Russia. Now off to get inspection sticker.

My truck is 4/76 so fingers crossed I installed in correct position as there were no holes on bumper.
