I'm glad that Az. only requires 1 plate on the back and new to state vehicle have to go through an "inspection" which when I moved down here the guy just walked around my 4runner.

Have you tried printing the vader light housings? I know myself and a lot of folks would be interested in that!
I have!

It came out great!

Just need actual measurements for production. If i can get my hands on one...

Nice looking 40. I'm pretty sure the license plate bracket on a 76 goes on the passenger side. Scroll down the list. The albums are in chronological order.
Thanks. I went with the information provided in post #12 here by @Economist LC76. If it’s wrong, it’s an easy fix to move it. Upon closer inspection of the image, the drawing had it on outside and image inside.

Just back from the Registry of Motor Vehicles to finally register my truck. Installed front license plate bracket OEM#75101-60011, still available from Toyota. My experience was different than Dizzy’s. The experience in my very blue state was similar to going through customs in China or Russia. Now off to get inspection sticker.

My truck is 4/76 so fingers crossed I installed in correct position as there were no holes on bumper.

On my first 40, I registered in a county with requires no emissions testing. It needed a VIN inspection, as the previous title had an extra zero in the VIN, not matching the vehicle, and it cost me a bunch of time off from work, and it was a big nervous moment, I don't remember who's mistake it was, but now, I always check all the numbers at the time of purchase.

This time, I actually asked the seller that if he gets it titled in his name (as there was a sketchy trail of title and bill of sales from three(ish) owners before). I explained that I would pay more for the vehicle. I didn't expect that he would do the homework, then one day my phone rang. So, I bought it with a New Mexico title - which requires no VIN inspection for New Mexico title transfer. For over two years, I had the title, but never registered, which is legal, in your garage/driveway. However, if you wait like a couple months, or more, after purchase date on the bill of sale to get a title, they also charge you a penalty late-title fee.

The governor closed the office in March, so they made an appointment schedule to deal with the flood of work after they re-opened. I had to wear a mask, get my temp checked, but tag and registration was easy.

BTW, my bumpers are full of holes, two for the plate holder, two for the hoop that holds the engine hand-crank tool, and a couple for fog lights, plus the frame mounts, IIRC.

This is a great read, which has a short section about getting thru the bureaucratic hoops of getting on the road. Saving The Old Rustbucket--My 1982 FJ40 Tale

Thanks for sending along. What a great read! Will start at the beginning post but did read the Inspection section. I’ll be bringing a case of expensive Old Milwaukee and Red Dog tall boys on Saturday just before my inspection station closes...just in case.

New glass, installed the front bumper, and started mouthing switches. Switch Plate will be spun aluminum once finished.

Got my yearly flat tire... every year I get one free nail :meh:

In my new tyre

Had a 250mi trip next day ... fun nighttime tyre repair ... rotated them while I was at it... then added gas to my FSP

Not bad mileage ... 13.8 mpg... 65-70 most of the trip, including the dreaded masspike construction traffic lol

Used my modified Mark prize tire kit @65swb45 :)

Reading some of these replies and it's funny with how strict CA can be with vehicles, that if it's pre-1975 (smog exempt) they couldn't care less. Zero safety inspections. I could of rolled in with a barely driveable vehicle and it would be fine.

I brought my 75 in from out of state and the lady kind of looked at the VIN and that was it.

Oh and my bumper had a spot for the holder on the passenger side.

Started removing my EGR today (leaking). Decided to give the valve cover a much needed cleanup. Could use a bit more, but I ran out of time and elbow grease...

Autosol will work wonders on aluminum. A bit of elbow grease and/or a cotton buffing wheel in a die grinder could have you could see your pearly whites in no time.

Made a skid plate template that will account for the nv4500, LC transfer case, and the AA bits that will also cover the exhaust tubing that hangs a bit below the frame. Now I just have to do some cutting and welding and I should be protected fairly well.View attachment 2337736

You can weld cardboard?
