Sitting in the garage drinking beer and wondering why my turn signals don’t work. But mostly drinking beer...hope everyone and their families are getting through this. View attachment 2257172

*At least my blinkers work 😏

Another coronaboredom project. Cleaned , serviced, and painted my hubs. Was gettin' her all prettied up for the Bako swap meet, but sadly we are cancelling.

I recently got an aftermarket scrap yard CD player ($10). It came out of a Ford Ranger, which was about as old CDs themselves. I took a nylock nut and modified it for a missing volume knob. The white font on black buttons goes decent with the original dash knobs and switches. My first 40 had a CD player that was all lit up with modern (20 years-ago) colors and lights, and it looked like a dance club.

Today, I built a couple of enclosures for a pair of 5-1/4" speakers using scrap plywood. Unfortunately, the original 40s passenger lower passenger dash pad won't work with it, however, a PO already cut the stereo hole a bit bigger, so I'll just take advantage of the existing carnage. I'll put the speakers behind the driver and passenger seat. I still have to make brackets, and route the wiring. It is always a good day when you can employ a jig saw and/or C-clamps.

That radio fit?

That radio fit?
The vertical dimension in the dash is perfect. The horizontal dimension was widened to the right, by a PO. I'd either have to remove the passenger dash pad or modify the pad to fit the radio. The radio is a bit narrow for the hole, but I'll fill the space with a mounting bracket. In the back, of the dash cavity, there is a bit of interference with the top of the heater/fan inlet tube, but I don't think that it will likely damage the plastic, either way I'll mount the radio at a slight angle to reduce interference.

I have a lower dash pad floating around the garage that has been altered already to fit a radio. I'll get some measurements if you are interested, I'd hate to see you hack up a perfectly good dash pad.

I was thinking about not running the passenger side pad at all. However, your dash pad sounds interesting.

I posted some time ago about how my engine ran rough between approximately 37-42 mph. I don’t have a tach so I have no idea what the RPMs are there. Since it is a 5/78 Cali spec it has a vacuum retard canister on the distributor which to my limited understanding was placed to decrease emissions. When I desmogged my 2F the recommendation was to cap the vacuum retard thus leaving only mechanical advance. I wondered if this was contributing to my rough running condition. I had in mind that I would one day put in a big cap dizzy from an FJ 60. Curiosity got the best of me when I learned that John (4cruisers) was providing an upgrade to some distributors in the form of a new vacuum advance canister used to replace an existing broken canister or in my case unused vacuum retard canister. I purchased a vacuum advance canister from John. This was my one splurge for the month given current climate. The package arrived today and after much nervous anticipation I modified my distributor. The project took me about 2 hours which included resetting the timing, and a test drive. The Cali spec carb does not have a dedicated advance port ( like the federal model carb) but does have an EGR port which was capped and apparently is perfectly acceptable to use for this purpose. Project finished. The cruiser definitely runs better specifically the rough spot previously mentioned is much better, almost gone. A few more test drives will give me more feed back. Also had a new cap and rotor in my box of stuff from PO. Put those on too. Photos show old vac retard canister then new one attached and new cap. I hear Toby Keith’s song but change the lyrics to “ I love this car”

RTR!!!!

Your daughters haven’t given you any s@?t about those quarantine pants?

That's the stay warm by the woodstove pants!

I went for a drive on Route 66. I tried to see how fast I could go...I think I saw 67mph at one point. Not too bad with 37 MTRs and an SM420.

*Edit: hit 71mph today and it still had more to go. Felt awesome passing someone!

Our weather has been too warm for a fire but not warm enough to turn the furnaces off. If MT didn’t suck so bad I’d consider heading west.

My 12yo when asked how I looked the other day told me “like a dad” not sure what that means.

Georg at Valley Hybrids has my 40 - massaging any unknown bugs out that are above my level.
A pandemic hits and I'm stuck at my house with 20+ things to do except work/drive my LC. Anyway, looking at your clean 40 I thought I'd raise a pint to you getting in a drive today!
