View attachment 1885112 Painted my faded gauge needles. I used testors fluorescent orange

Funny, this past weekend used combo of Testors Model Master fluorescent orange and red to to age the clear radiator overflow hose on my 69’ (aged to keep equal dignity for a 50 year old rig). Also aged the pristine radiator cap I got from @RAGINGMATT with hydrogen peroxide (to rust it) and rust converter to patina it, and steel wool to age the decal.

So... you would be doing an ‘authentication’ instead of a restoration! :grinpimp:

Is that the CCOT quarter panel? How did you determine how far down from the ledge to cut? What was your measurement? I have a set of the CCOT quarters and this project is in my near future. Thanks.
I ordered the quarter panel from realSteel, it took a lot of finessing to get it to fit right. My old quarter was pretty far gone. I also replaced the rear sill before I tackled the quarter panel. For measuring, I really just held in place over my existing one and marked it out with a metal scribe..

What are the plans for the old rims?

We sold the rims and tires to another local Mudder. The “old” rims were powdered, we are going to have the new ones painted a darker grey. By the time we had the powdered rims unmounted stripped, painted and remounted, new is the way to go. They are pretty decently priced if you order into your dealer. Still up in the air over which tire to run. BTW, thanks for sending winter our way.

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been busy buttoning a few things up on the ‘76 Forty. The forty was running cool(125*F), removed the thermostat housing and found the thermostat was upside down. Replaced with a new one, and its now heating up to 175*F.

Next up I replaced the engine, transmission, transfer case and rear differential oils.
New: oil filter, spark plugs and alternator belt.

Figured out that I was experiencing vapor lock. Couldn’t go more than a 5 or so miles before the symptoms kicked in and that was mostly only on the highway. I vented the cap and have had no issues. Drove about 35miles on the highway, no problem. Fingers crossed I can now start to drive and enjoy it.

Lastly, I went with some 33x10.5r15 BFG KM3’s, recently powder coated the steelies at LS($33/wheel).
I’ll throw the hub caps on after a few days of driving as is.View attachment 1887381View attachment 1887390View attachment 1887392View attachment 1887395

How do you find the 10.5 width? I read somewhere someone was not happy with this. I don’t have powersteering so I do not want to go with 12.5. Also in Australia the cops don’t like it if tyres are showing past the body line.

Driving around town I have had now problems with turning the 33x10.5’s with manual steering. Shoot, they seem to be easier than the 31x10.5 that I replaced. The KM3’s tuck very nicely into the rear wheel wells.

I measured the tread that is in contact with the road surface and it measures 7" wide. The actual tire height is 32 3/8" tall. Also wanted to include a better view of how far outside the fenders and wheel wells they stick out, not very much at all.

Thank you for that it does look to be a very good match. I will be getting the same tires as soon as I get to the truck again.

I have the CCOT quarters and found them pretty easy to work with. Willd take a bit of fineseing to get the best fit. But fitting them was fairly simple. Pretty much I just cut off everything like 4" down and removed all the spot welds. Then just fit the new panel overlapping the little bit of the old. Once in place put a cut line (sharpie in my case) and cut the rest. Then it was just a matter of lining it all up.

This was with the "overlap" before the final trimming of the old metal.

Im sure there are tons of ways to do this. This was just the way I found to be easiest.
