@64Rotorhead, also consider with what your final caster numbers are going to be, before your make your decision. Just my opinion...

did they fully weld the knuckles in on your axle? they left them tacked for me to adjust kind of like a cut and turn once i got the pinion angles set.

I did what I feel was a really good mockup with my original housing to determine caster and pinion angle. So I had them weld em in! Let's hope it's right;)

Painted some stuff as i finish the TC.

@letterman52 - what did you use to seal up your transfer case? I rebuilt mine last winter, sealed with the paper gaskets and anaerobic permatex and it’s already leaking. I’m planning to pull it back down sometime soon but don’t want to make the same mistake twice!

Working on my soft top doors for my 69’ FST. After adjusting hinges, they fit perfectly. I am going to repaint, install new felt and new plexiglass. The OEM doors (and bows) are courtesy of my bud @FJ40 MATT. Except for the above mentioned minor refurbishment work, the doors (and bows for that matter) are in great shape. I don’t plan on using the doors very much but nice to have them for my rig.

Been driving around with no top- but the rain just won't stop. So we started putting the glass in- what a pain in the neck! But at least it's clean work- yes, that's the living room. Love my wife.
And yesterday sent the chrome bits off for a refresh. Decided not to do the two side emblems since CityRacer has OEM for much less than re-chroming.
Won't be long now!

Not much I can do, at least for a bit. First storm started Christmas Night, dumped 7" or so.

Second storm started Thursday night, had another 7" by this afternoon.

So I spent most of my free time for the last two days shoveling.

If it ever snows here, I don’t bother shoveling... I just knock the buildup off the hood and roof and head out. 14” isn’t even a challenge for your 40s

:D

Did you lightly tap the inside of the tin with a ball peen hammer to reverse the stretch around the bolts? It’s an old mechanics trick to ensure the tin doesn’t sit out from the housing. It doesn’t take much, just a hair last flat.

Did you spray it down with soapy water? Are you familiar with the rope trick? Recently I’ve used heavy weed-eater line or clothesline to have a smooth “rope” to pull the seal inside the metalwork.

With a bit of practice and the right tools it should go smoothly.

Soapy water and the rope trick made my glass as simple as possible.

The other door fits just as nice. I must say, the bolts for the door hinges are in worst location to access. Now that I am satisfied with fit, I will work on refurbishment mentioned in my earlier post today. Off to take my 40 to Home Depot now.

Soap was flying, ropes were wrangling... still not the easiest thing. But looks great when done.

Fresh wheel cylinders for the rear brakes and a differential from the front of a FJ62 installed. Got the diff from @cruiserjunktion. Waiting on rear axle seals to finish putting the rear together.

FJ40 driveshaft yokes don't match the differential flange of the FJ62 diff. I thought about drilling out the flange to match the bolt pattern of the driveshaft but I don't trust my ability to keep everything properly aligned. Instead I scavenged the yokes from a FJ62 driveshaft to mount to the FJ40 driveshaft. Rear done and used a trail vise to press in the bearing caps on the u-joint.
