Well hear I go! Had to build the shop first, it's done, so this marks day 1 of the FJ being rolled in to the shop. Some minor disassembly started! It'll take a while.

Build plan:
Vortec, NV4500, Atlas2, 37's", 4.56, Diamond front and centered rear- wider 60 or 80 width. To be decided: SOA or links.

Slowly coming apart. The wiring is a mess.

And check out those turn signals! Where did they come from? Gotta have originals

A good thing: there's 3 coats of paint I see, the original green for that year, white/light color on top of that, then black. The black just sprayed everywhere, covered up stuff that shouldn't be covered. But the good thing is that it's kept it protected. Amazingly great shape with so little rust. Especially the rear quarters and by the rear doors- very clean

yeah I bet your wiring is a mess...SBC conversions can have the effect. And those turn signals...fugly! You'll go through lots of PB Blaster. Its great stuff! Aircraft paint stripper (available at most auto stores or paint shops) and a scrapper will make quick work of the paint situation.

Yep, roger that on the PB Blaster, have used lots already. Tub almost ready to come and engine. Just 3 stubborn tub bolts left, probably looking at the sawzall and grinder for those, although I'll let a few more doses of PB work first.

Going to media blast a lot, but for surface body parts better stick with paint remover. You mention aircraft stuff, funny, I started out as an A&P if you know what that is- anyway a bit of aircraft painting, for repairs mostly.

Based on what I can see in the pictures, the tub appears to be pre-'73 as there is no filler door. You might want to double check the door jamb plate and the frame numbers.

Great timing on your post! I was just searching 1973 images on Google, as I saw another thread on here where someone moved the filler back to the right rear- I presume for an aftermarket external tank. I'm new to this, and wouldn't have known if you hadn't pointed it out. Now I do see in Google Images, that 73 pics show the filler door. Hmmm. The tub is all loose and ready to pull, and a few of the bolts were missing. I wonder what tub I've got. Guess I'll make it work.

I looked at the door jamb plate, it's been painted over and could only make out "MAY" stamped at top, and I guess s/n FJ40148816. Have yet to find frame numbers. I'll strip the paint off the door jamb plate so I can read it all.

Pics of front too:

Your tub was made May 1973 based on the vin number. Vin is stamped on the outside of the front passenger frame rail behind the bumper. You can check your engine serial number as well- look in the FAQ on sor.com.
