No spacers since they are 17" they clear the tie rod.

And if I do manage to snag that 40 it will most likely just get pushed to the back of the garage until my kids get done with college. My youngest is 10.
I previously built a cluster of Autometer gauges and everything worked perfectly. A while ago I swapped out for an OEM cluster (and appropriate OEM sending units). Just recently got the 40 to Tampa and started tinkering again. The temp gauge would go down to C then work all the way back up to H and stay there. I naturally freaked out but after thorough infrared temp measurements (and realizing it was reading fine with the Autometer temp gauge).
So freaking out stopped and I just drove it. With a huge freaking smile on my face.

That would definitely work. I'm about ready to get my '71 FJ40 up and running again after it not being driven since mid-2000. It's been at my place in Southern Nevada patiently waiting its turn. In the meantime, I bought my '76 FJ40 to take over the '71's duties, and finally finished my '86 FJ60 build this summer (a 2-1/2 year project). I think my wife and I have decided to focus on restoring the '71, and will more than likely sell the '76 at some point. I'm at the point now (Medicare in 3 months) where one more major Land Cruiser project is about all I want to do. Too much outdoors to explore in the West.

I figure if I can score a solid 40 for a good price in the next year or so I could just push it in the back of the garage, worry about it later. Wait too long and all the good original 40's are going to be gone, too pricey, or beyond repair. From the road that 40 looks pretty original, pretty solid, and not too trashed.

I am ready to do the same upgrade to the OEM wheels with hubcaps-it just looks great...Only think I am worry about is narrow wheelbase and at the offroad conditions I need to be more carefull....I have stock wheels,BFG s on them and hubcaps for about 2 years -never put them on yet....Been long time a coming with this endeavor but finally.............

Might chilly drive to tire shop today but dang well worth it.....
After switching to this setup, drivability is noticeably improved!
And... I have manual steering
Take an afternoon and give it a try. If you’ve got access to an impact it’ll be even easier. Now that I’ve got a real compressor it makes the job so much easier.
I had old 7.50 tires on 16” splits and it was undriveable. They were ancient, inflexible, 75+ lbs each, and about 6” wide. I tried them, but couldn’t get them off fast enough.
Come to think of it, the 33x10.50s felt very similar when I left the shop and they were inflated to 40 psi. Could be the splits would’ve been different if they weren’t at 50 psi.
