View attachment 1813922 I fitted a new side coolant drain (cock) from a later model Toyota. Just needed a brass reducing bush to make it fit. The bonus is that I can fit a tube to the cock and not have coolant dribbling down the block anymore.

I hope this doesn't sound stupid but I wasn't aware there was a block drain on the engine and I surely wasn't aware that this item existed or that it would fit a F engine. Thank you for sharing this. I filed away the part number and photo in my book of information for things I may need in the future. The wealth of knowledge on this forum is fantastic!

Haven't posted on this thread in a while. Couple weeks ago I got my lower dash pads cleaned up (used SEM plastic prep and SEM adhesion promoter) and painted with SEM Landau Black

The OEM temp gauge (w/ new correct sending unit) was reading warm. Today I burped the radiator, then drove it, then reburped 4 times and it read the same. No problems running. I had an Autometer gauge installed previously and it always read cool. Pretty convinced the gauge is toast. But heck it looks and drives great!

There are a few versions of that drain cock. This is the original part:
Discontinued but this one is currently on eBay out of Australia

And this is the updated replacement from Toyota.

I thought that the one I’m using was more practical.

Did the bearing overheat?

No thats the part that I don`t understand. there was no indicator of a problem. just the wheel was loose like the bearing was loose. the only thing keeping the wheel on was the disk brake caliber.

You might want to check the opposite side for fatigue cracks just to be sure.
