Got my wheels back from powdercoating @ Les Schwab and the wildpeaks mounted. Turned out pretty good. Chose the almond color. Looks good with the red paint.

Hmm. I wonder if Schwab would powder coat my bezel. Almond might look good on it.

I was told they only do wheels. I am going to have my valve cover and air box PC'd locally. Not too expensive. I am sure a local PC shop would have a close match in color.

The two 40’s belong to @PapaTwo40s we have been planning this photo op for a few months.

I've always wondered , Are half doors required in some states?

I've never had an issue with Law Enforcement when I roll without the 1/2 doors here in rural Georgia. Matter of fact, the wife and I will be stroll'n door-less in it today to several July 4th events.

Just filled it up, tying up some loose ends at the office, then on to the afternoon fun....

Happy 4th to all!

Started the reinstall of the head this morning. First, check for damage to the valve seats. Turned the head upside down and poured mineral spirits into each combustion chamber and let it sit for two hours as I removed the old gasket from the block. No leaks in any chamber! So I dumped out the mineral spirits and started to remove the gasket remains from the head.

This is what the valves in the #2 cylinder looked like when I removed the head. There are marks in each valve, some on the chamber walls, some on the spark plug and some on the top of the piston.

After I poured out the mineral spirits I started to clean the remaining gasket material off the head and then cleaned each chamber with a rag. As I scraped the valve faces I saw most of the marks disappear as the carbon disappeared leaving a valve face almost untouched. There are still some marks, most in the recesses of the valves but the outer surfaces look unscathed. Looks like I have really dodged a very large and expensive bullet.

I have a new appreciation for these old tractor engines. My luck held and the old engine is going to live to run another day.

Installed new fuse block. Upcoming projects include installing a stock refurbished heater blower that I just bought and installing a new to me H horn that I got from Mark:) I will fix my old blower per Coolerman’s tutorial and sell it.

I wonder what was bouncing around in that #2 chamber? How does the piston look?

I was missing a lock washer and it was sucked into the #2 cylinder. The piston has dents but nothing serious.

The saga continues. File this under Ripley's Believe it or Not.

I only have a car port to work in and the sun gets to it in the late afternoon making a hot day even hotter. Before I quit for the day I decided to do a compression check and I was amazed. I took a photo of the #1 cylinder because I doubt if anyone would have believed me otherwise.

Got some more parts into paint.
Polyester primer after epoxy. sanded with 220, then 400 wet.
Then removed dust with tac rag, then shot the single stage Heath Grey. 4 coats...

With these parts finished I can begin installing interior, and get some electrical ran in the engine bay.

Did a compression test and adjusted the timing...she is running great, although the carb will need a rebuild soon, but next up is the front end. I just ordered a Knuckle rebuild kit with bearings from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters.

Decided to pull the pitman arm off of this FJ60 box so I can send it to Texas for a rebuild.

I cobbled together a homemade puller setup and went to town with both an impact driver as well as a 3 foot cheater bar.

After several cycles of heating it with a torch, it finally started to move.…

My enthusiasm was short lived as I realized it just stripped the threads out of the puller.

Holy hell this thing is on there.
Cut it off and buy a new one. I had to do the same thing. It's in my 76 thread below (page 80). Wasted many hours and 2 pullers ruined. Even tried welding the puller to the arm.

mounted up and painted. I now have a fill plug. Love having a rear service cover with the stoutness of the 9.5" ring gear :)

One more addition to make before calling it good.....529 Nitro Gears and a Harrop elocker. Yellow Tail wine from Australia. The vineyards (Yenda,Australia) are only 350 miles north of Melbourne which is where the Harrops come from. Wine to be enjoyed AFTER the technical part of the gear install....not during. ;)

No leaks....no pulling or crabbing....just rides nice and quiet now :)

What is the rough cost of this swap?

Kids love 40s.
Headed over to the in laws for fireworks show on the golf course.
Daughter and her friends insisted on taking the landcruiser.
Happy 4th of July...!!
