I did my best on going overboard with the wiring...no wonder it takes me forever

I fabbed up a mount for an auxiliary fuse panel in the engine bay. It uses the 3 bolts from the no longer needed 4x4 vacuum gadget thingamabob. It sits about 2.5 inches off the firewall and will hide some wire routing. The fuse panel includes (5) 5 pin fused relays and 5 fused accessory slots. I've got it wired to ACC on the ignition via a separate 70 relay. Currently have a breaker in b/w the panel and battery so to easily trip it and work on it vs disconnecting the battery.

Also have a ground bar that will be used for all engine bay grounding needs vs grounding s*** here and there. More work for sure but it will be clean...ill have all the grounds sheathed together too. I'll un mount everything and paint the panel once everything is gtg.

Wires for in cab switches are run under the truck and up into the cab near the trans tunnel. I'll have (2) 4 switch panels mounted in a Tuffy center console with a volt meter and usb plugs for charging stuff. Decided to include the volt meter since I'm not using the stock ammeter since I upgraded to the later style cluster and its mounted 50 amp meter is poor at best. It'll just be for looks.

A busy holiday weekend in the shop. Finally got to three small projects that have been on my wish list for quite a while.

Project 1: Swing-away carrier stops

A couple years ago I had to open my tire carrier while on a very off camber portion of the trail (Yep, broke down) and the half on the down hill side popped the end off the strut and hit the rear quarter of the tub.:crybaby: I had trouble with the struts before and had always intended on a stronger, more positive stop/lock. But not soon enough.

As luck would have it I won a gift certificate from TMR at this years Rubithon and as I was looking through their web site I found some spring loaded pull pins and  an idea was born. Hers is my build.

I started with a flat washer for a 2" bolt, it is 1/4" thick and it had the right ID and OD for my purposes. Then I added 2 pieces of DOM that were a perfect fit for the pull pins.

I drilled and tapped the DOM, cut the washer in two and added mounting tabs.

The I welded the DOM to the hinges, figured out the swing radius and where I wanted the stops. I only needed a about 110º of swing to clear my early OEM drop down tail gate.

And presto, stops.

Project 2: Trailer Hitch

This one was easy. I already had the receiver and knew I didn't want to go through the rear frame member right now because I didn't want to mess with the center mount on the tire carrier. That's a winter project, so I worked around it.

Project 3: Temporary Tie Down Locations

I can't believe I fought this one this long, and I was tired of wrapping bungee cords around my roll cage and other equally hokey locations. I had an idea of what I wanted and a long time ago had acquired 10 small D-rings and mounting clips. I also wanted something I could install and remove quickly, and used existing OEM threaded holed so I could take it off when not on the trail. Here's what I ended up with after a quick 2 hours in the shop.

I started with the D-rings, and 1/4" X 1" flat bar because it fit cleanly on the hardtop mounting rail. The mounting clips didn't fit on the bar so I 'clipped' them, then welded them in place. I cut them so the D-rings would be under a little pressure when welded in place so they wouldn't rattle.

Spent some time on some soft doors I purchased last year on eBay.

I did not realize from the photos when I purchased them, but a PO had welded sheet metal in where canvas had previously been. So they've sat in my garage for a while as I tried to find time and tools to get at them.

Here is a comparison of the passenger's side door after I finished, and the driver's side door prior to start:

And the "after" image:

You can see I had some issues with the handle on the driver's side door. I posted some more pics in my thread. Looking for some advice on how the handle is attached, and more importantly how I can detach it.

What a great idea and implementation; I wish mine had these!

That there's pretty slick... sort of looks like a useful business venture! ;)

It looks like you are missing bushings on your springs...?

They are there. Just not a thick flange. I'm debating how to deal with it. Maybe some washer like spacer in there.

Anyhow, I continued getting the rear end buttoned up. Everything is nice and tight with no rattles...

Decided to put yellow zinc on all non body color parts, and stainless on body color parts like hinges etc.

Put my h55f gearbox in 84 hj47 for the second time within a month. Put in first time then realised bearings were stuffed, now rebuilt and have it bolted to engine with two bolts for now. It might be fully finished for the weekend.
I'm installing an H41 from an '84 HJ47 into my '71 FJ40. Did your HJ47's split transfer case come with a drum parking brake at the rear output?

Put a 16 tooth driven speedo gear in to replace the 17 tooth.

Replaced the bushings shackles and pins on the front.

Decided to go with new springs on the front. Now trying to make up our minds up which way to go medium light, or medium heavy. The ones on now seem a little short, have no idea what brand these are. Someone had removed a leaf and turned the bottom leaf upside down, probably to get it to flex and ride better.

I'm hoping the back comes down far enough it doesn't ride like log wagon.

Didn't mean to post that last pic. That's my wife and Chewy our Ridge Back and Pit.

I like those seats (Front and rear) - WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE?
Also - the three point seat belts I am looking for some now - any suggestion?
I have seen a lot of guys put Hummer seat belts in, works well and a lot available.
