What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Re-assembly underway. I really need to be focusing on getting it running, but all these shiny restored and new parts have me distracted. I did manage to mount the brake booster/master cylinder and clutch master to the firewall so there's that. Probably have to unbolt them to get out of the way soon but it looks so much better there than in the box.

@bernardbar3 looks like one of the priciest Land Cruisers I have ever seen ! 😉 What does that $624,000 translate into?

I often think about how many vehicles are in the world stacking pages and pages of documents sitting in files across world governments and what it may take to locate a set of papers maybe 25 yrs old….could they actually do it? I know in NJ, they have little to do but watch whether or not my registered 1957 Ford has insurance. Which it does but under the threat of license suspension, I had to kill an entire morning to show someone a piece of paper THEY HAVE on file……SOMEWHERE…😡

You can throw those test results away. A cold test is pointless and you used a different gauge. In all your tests compression increases significantly during the wet test. This by definition indicates the rings are not seating or are worn.

Did you hold your throttle open when you did the tests?

$642,000 translates to $16,894 US Dollars at today's exchange rate of Colombian Peso's. Good question. Thanks.

Also when I give the DMV anything, I give them a good copy and tell them the dog ate my original, lol.

Started on my front axle rebuild. I was a little weary of this job, but tear down went very smoothly and quicker than I expected. I knew the knuckles were loose and leaky, but when I got into it I found some PO had not used the lock washers on the hub nuts and the nuts were completely loose and able to just spin on the threads. After I get things cleaned up more and get a centering tool I’ll start reassembling with later 40 series disc knuckles.

l rewired the break at the rear wiring connector, whilst killing time waiting for a delivery l fitted the new tail lights...l've tried loading the before/after video of the exhaust sound sadly no joy..but there's no significant difference but its 'sound' front to back now... next up l've 3 days of dry, no to little wind, relatively hot days 19-28 degrees to do the raptor in the tub...then l'll surprise you (& probably myself if it works out as l hope) with the next 'notion' l'm going to take on....hint it'll be historically rustic...
In the meantime l'm going to look at the kitchen, then chill....its friday night.... :deadhorse:
 
Started the next phase of work on the karma cruiser, resealing the cowl and hardtop. I had noticed a few weeks ago when I was under the dash replacing the turn signals that there were a couple of rust stains high up the firewall under the cowl. Taking a hard look at the seam, it was obvious that it was not weathertight

Being familiar with doing tile work, I opted to use a grout saw to take out the old seam sealer. HF had one with a saw blade that looked interesting…for $3!…so I bought it. Made a few passes with it for depth, then switched to a matte knife. 20 minutes later, the seam was clear.😊

A tube of beige seam sealer from Eastwood is due shortly.😉

I cannot emphasize enough how much you should not pour abrasives into your engine. Any engine. Ever. Don't do that. The time for machine work is prior to assembly.
 
I agree abrasive in the cylinders isn't a good idea. Ajax scouring powder is aggressive stuff. Maybe something like Bon Ami, it doesn't scratch glass like Ajax.

I think a real solution is pull the head and pistons and rough up the bore with one of those ball hones. The break in the engine with non detergent oil.

First time. 60 Series, low range, putzing around an empty parking lot. When my 40 is ready I’ll have my kids give that a go too.
 
Installed an FJ60 steering wheel in Lilred while we decide how to attack restoring our original steering wheel. Thank you @knuckle47 for the steering wheel. Fits and works great.
