i tried with the extractor you see with the help of a clamp, "unblock spray oil", heat with gas torch..... but nothing this little bastard won't came out ...

at the end it was 01:00 am after a long fight i managed to pull away the steering box with the arms still attached

i think is very hard if not impossible install the SB with the arm without remove the fender .... has somebody some suggestion ?

thank's

I've had luck removing several of those Pitman arms, including one from a '69 FJ55 that had never been removed after 30+ years. I used a puller like yours and applied heat, then with the puller tightened as tight as I could, hit the side of the Pitman arm at the shaft with repeated sharp blows from a steel hammer. After a few hits I'd tighten the puller again, each time I could turn the box end wrench on the puller just a small amount. Eventually the arm popped off. The sharp blows from the hammer send shocks/vibrations through the steel of the Pitman arm and the steering gearbox shaft at different frequencies and this allows the parts to move relative to one another, eventually separating them. Don't give up yet, you're on the right track.

Leave the puller on it. Every few hours tap the arm with a hammer. Not very hard you are just trying to cause some vibration. You can also try heat. When you check on it, see if you can get another 1/4 or half turn on your puller. One time you will come back and the arm will be off.

..oh no ! i can't give up ! so i'll tried again , today a friend gave me his professional puller that is stronger than mine's which is a cheap amateur puller (probally a fxxxing china product) and now is all deformed.

thank's for the support, cheers

edit : i thought the same : to leave the puller all the night tightened and hit the arm sometime.

Set up the puller on the arm and tighten it.Heat up the pitman.Continue to tighten the puller. Use a small sledge hammer to hit the end of the puller forcing screw (the end with the flats where you are tightening with the wrench).Hit it straight on so you are driving the screw into the splined shaft. You will hear a change in pitch while hitting when the arm pops free of the spline.
You may need to heat, tighten, hit it, a few times but it will move .
Quick, high heat and hit the screw with the hammer like it owes you money.Teach that sucker who is in charge :hillbilly:

Sharp trucks! I noticed the longleaf in the picture and that you're in GA. Whereabouts in South GA are you?

I'm on the coast in Brunswick, but that picture was taken on our farm on the Jeff Davis/Appling County line.

Good eye catching the longleaf branches.

Made her an honest woman.
Mounted new spare and the emblems I have had for 2 years.

Started the reseal on my knuckles. Knuckle and wheel bearings appear to be in good shape on the driver's side and no symptoms on the passenger side, so just seals and gaskets all around.

These knuckle rebuild pics reminds me how much I hate front end rebuild jobs...:wrench:

I've decided that this time I'm having my Toyota tech buddy do it for me.
