The troopy got a freshly powder coated set of late model FJ40 wagon wheels wrapped in new 33x10.50 KO2's.

Well, they aren't late model. I've been one up'ed by Rustic76!
But I got my new wheels installed today. I like the look way better than the old American Racing aluminum wheels the rig came with.

The blue and white combo looks great! That cruiser is such a beauty!!

Cleaning up a few oem parts my rig has been missing for awhile now.

It seems you've got some duplicate parts Jake. I've got most of those... less 2 mirrors and a mirror arm. One of my arms is a 'knock off' I made and I've been using 6" Convex stainless steel mirrors for about 25 years now :D

Bonus points to anyone who can spot the arm I made in a pic of my truck ;)

View attachment 1350400 I installed some new to me spring hangers that I bought off eBay. My old ones where rusted out pretty bad. I got some grade 8 bolts so I could treat the frame and not have to weld.

I'd highly recommend gusseting your spring hangers to avoid having the frame crack out where it attaches. Might not be a problem if it's a mall crawler, but mine cracked across the top of the stock frame, and I've seen others that have torn out entirely.

I'm probably going to do that. It's odd that Toyota didn't do that from the factory. My main concern was the rust forming around and behind those hangers and it left some nasty pits for sure. On another note,I just replaced my 7 year old optima red top with another one. It lasted 7 years so I figured that was insurance for me.

I brought home more parts from the paint shop today. I have such an understanding wife!

Been out in the bush a bit... With a few failures... I'm losing track... I think it's been over the span of the last two weeks.

First, daBoise and I, started on the first real post-harness-meltdown, post-surgery trip and 44 started overheating before I even got all the way up the US 95 grade, north out of Vegas. I couldn't find anything obvious, so I decided to remove the grass cap on my 'burp point' to burp the cooling system. As soon as I started unscrewing it, it became very obvious the cap had developed a pin hole... It started shooting hit coolant about 10'. I patched it with a piece of gasket material and the finger off a vinyl glove, returned home and fixed it.

Second, we tried again the next morning and had a great day, with the three of us sleeping in 44 that night. The next day we drove a couple of hours and 44 started overheating, yet again. No squealing belt, no nothing. I popped the hood and found the crank-water pump belt so loose it wasn't even turning... The bolt was gone out of the belt tensioner. I didn't have a spare not, so I used a ratchet strap to tension the belt... It worked well enough that we spent another couple of days exploring and sleeping in 44. This storm ginned up east of us, while the sun was going down in the west. Made the storm look like a forest fire.

We also made a 4.8 mile hike up Long Canyon and back and, even though daBoise were wearing boots, Gunner came up lame... He's 11 on Veterans Day and the terrain is simply too tough on him now.

Returned home and the next morning, the battery was dead. Charged it, pulled it and had it tested... It tested fine.

Pulled the ashtray and Installed this USB charging station and voltmeter, in its place, so I could monitor the battery charging.

I got the tailgate out of the office and into the garage where it belongs.

Chester and I left Gunner to bind with Dianna and headed back out... We drove 50 miles up Alamo Road and found this Tarantula

And this Big Horn Sheep Ram... He was about 1/2 to one mile away

Play 'find the ram' with me in this pic

I was very pleased with his well 44 was running... It was charging a little low, but seemed fine!

We spent the night here

The next morning 44 wouldn't start... the battery was a bit low, but it cranked and made no effort to start... A lotta 'rrrr' and no 'vroom'. I checked the fuel pumps, they were working. I checked the oil pressure safety switch and it was working. I checked the fuel filters, they were fine. The carb sight glass was half full (normal). I had a new coil and decided to just swap it out. While swapping it, I found a broken lead to the coil +. I fixed that and it still wouldn't start... By this time 44's battery was dead, as was my jump box.

I found I had cell service, so I called Dianna and she came out with the Tundra (I forgot to have her bring the hitch stinger, for the Tundra, so I hooked up a chain and she towed me 22 miles south on powdery Alamo Road. I had to sit in 44 with the windows up, to keep from choking to death.

Once we reached pavement, we left 44 and returned home. I picked up the stinger, drove back to 44, installed the tow bar and tired 44 home. I backed her into the garage and used the leaf blower to create a blinding dust storm in daHood.

I charged the battery overnight and the next morning I tried something I thought of, while being towed 22 miles... My hood lock/ignition interrupt has been finicky a couple of times since the harness meltdown. I removed the immobilizer component, from a coil - lead and bypassed it.

44 started right up and purred like a kitten!!

I reached out to Rudi (@bj40green) by PM and he told me my VR was charging too low, he sent a link to a great thread and instructions. I nade the adjustment to my VR and Rudi validated my results... Een grote dank aan mijn vriend in de Nederlandse Antillen!

Ram is just above the cactus in the center right of the photo

Is that your final answer?!?

I'm not sure where that is... The ram is between two Joshua Trees... ;) Does that pin point it for you?

It's actually almost dead center, about 1/3 up from the bottom...
