Did you have any issues with the old ones being to bright in rain or snow. I had some 8000k LED just like that in Angie's Taco and in bad weather it looked you engaged hyper-drive. I could not see past the hood. I know they were not pointed to high since we were not get flashed by oncoming cars.
I haven’t had that problem.

I have them in my wife's 4runner and the driving lights are what really give off the glare. Great for normal night driving but I generally tunr them off in snow.

This is exactly why non halogen bulbs shouldn’t be put in housings designed for halogen bulbs.

Was driving the 93 today going about 45. Let off the gas and got a whining/grinding noise. Sounds like scraping metal. Give it gas and it goes away. Let off and it comes back. Not as noticeable around 35mph. Not noticeable at 15-20.

If it was my 3FE I wouldn’t worry about it because how often are you getting pushed downhill in order to get over 45mph? (Thought I’d save everyone the time of cracking 3FE jokes!)

Any suggestions on where to start looking? Maybe a brake caliper catching or something? I tried to take a video but you can’t hear it.

I've got a noise like that, but mine seems less mph dependent. I removed the front driveshaft and it went a way, so I thought front u joints, but I put in new joints and also later put in a DC shaft with new u joints and the noise is still there. Best guess at this point is front T-case output bearing.

On mine, it was the spindle bushing. Same symptom, sounded a lot like running over a rumble strip.

Hmmm. I just got a ping noise when shifting from reverse to forward. Almost like a spring popping. I’m used to clunking sounds but this was much higher pitched.

Greetings everybody! Not new to mud, but new to the 80 club. Sure to be a regular in the days to come. Just picked up @JimmyK’s killer 1996 LX450. Black n grey, 3xLck, 157K... definintely some stuff to work on, but cant wait to get it home from VA to South FL and dig in. Truck is getting new shoes on Tuesday (315 75 16 STT Pro’s), and then we’ll hit the road.

Been discussing some of its “issues” with my colleagues and they are giving me a ton of sh*t for the 1/3 of the stuff that isn’t working or needs some love. I’ve replied that the other 2/3 will run perfect. Much to my chagrin, they came up with the perfect nickname (according to them) for the rig.

I’ll throw a few more pics up when I get the new treads on and I’ve posted on mudship if anybody needs something moderate sized moved south. Hoping for smooth travels.
Cheers!

Internal frame coating and full POR 15 treatment on the underside of my truck. Evidence is on my hands... pretty sure it's going to be on my hands for a few days

I assume this means you'll soon be driving the "Sex Panther"?

Welcome to the 80 club!

Just finished up fixing my 4 X4 labs Jerry can rack. The thin metal that was dimple died had failed so I decided to Beef It Up. Borrowed my buddies welder and went to town haven't used the Mig in years probably since high school. It

Cool Science. I get it the optics aren't optimal to make them work in the "optimal" and most "efficient" way. The lens on the stock headlight wasn't designed exactly for this type of light. But in the real world, it's a huge improvement over the stock headlight bulbs and visibility is improved dramatically. No way are these hampering my own vision and making it unsafe. Everything at night is more visible and that is safer. True, if you don't adjust the aim of the headlights it's possible that they might be a distraction to oncoming drivers. I can't speak for others but I adjust them to not be aimed too high and cause issues for other drivers.
That article also talks about how these types of lights give an "illusion" of more light because they fill up a shorter distance in front of the car with more light giving the impression of more light. That may be true with normal road cars that are much lower. Not so much the case on a lifted cruiser.
Have you ever driven a cruiser with stock headlamps at night in the rain? Yep we all have. The headlights are worthless because they reflect off the wet road surface and don't illuminate anything. It's difficult to even make out lane markings. Whether it's "optimal" or not these LED lights actually illuminate the road surface even at night in heavy rain and I'm certain I'm a safer driver as a result because I'm not wandering across lanes because I can't see them.

To be clear I'm not saying the article is wrong, but the science behind it doesn't always paint the whole picture. If oncoming drivers were flashing their lights at me as they go by I'd know I was causing a problem for them but in the 3+ years of having the LEDs, that hasn't happened. Don't know what to say beyond that.

Tell us a little bit about how you did internal.
Eastwood internal coating. Spray it into the frame at various points until it is seeping out the holes. The Eastwood comes with a flexy multidirectional spray nozzle to get into the frame areas that are harder to reach. It's leaks out green though. If you are going to do it, recommend painting after like I did.

Update: it doesn’t do it in neutral. When it starts happening I kick it in to neutral and it goes away.

Maybe @Tools R Us or @jonheld will chime in.

Between last night and today I have been a busy bee. Realistically this weekend is my last before the humidity ramps up making working in my non air cooled garage a tough ask. I changed out the O2 Sensors and replaced the A/C pulley to stop a squeal. New plugs, plug seals and valve cover gasket. Changed the fluid in the fan clutch and topped off the Air Con. Replaced the thermostat, heater valve and every small hose I could reach. Pulled the Throttle body gave it a clean and threw in a new Toyota air filter. Only thing I didn't do was change the accelerator cable. I hadn't realized how bad it was until it started falling apart in my hand. All in all a successful day with no "gotchas".

@Irish Reiver ... In the photo, the hose clamp for intake tube @ throttle body is not in correct place. Maybe you just took the pic before tightening it down : )

Good catch, I haven't done my final once over yet (still have the York to bolt on again) but I had missed tightening the clamps...
