Taking 80s tech to a whole new level. Cleaned and sanded the new old grill, painted flat black to match existing trim, masked off and painted letters.

Notched the old '91 new grill to fit flush on my '95.

I really like how it turned out for some upfront Toyota representation. The white on the lettering may be a bit too bright white and may need to be muted a little, but I will see how it looks after a few weeks.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Just found out Loco Moco is coming to Phoenix. Looking forward to eating my weight in Malasadas, the one thing I miss most about Big Island.

I think I made this exact post last July, but we did another family trip down to Padre Island National Seashore. When I bought this Cruiser two years ago it was for $3500 and it seemed rough with 231K miles on the truck. I had educated myself a bit about the Land Cruiser but had never owned one, to me I was getting a high mileage weekend toy. It took a full year to go 1500 miles and by then I had enough confidence for that 700 mile or so trip down to Padre Island last year. That went flawless and now I have great confidence in the vehicle and took off without a worry this year. Another 650 miles in 95 degree heat, cruising around 80-85 MPH (hey, that's the speed limit) and engine temps stay between 190 and 193. Weighed down with all 5 of us, coolers, and gear for a beach trip and 4 day getaway. Love this truck.

Replaced both rear brake rotors (definitely below spec) and rebuilt the rear calipers with them help of my 2 later teen boys. Still took several hours to do, but then we ended up bleeding the entire brake system, so a good excuse to replace all the fluid (since we let the master cylinder leak down a little too far while we had the caliper removed from the vehicle...).

Found a good trick to get the long rubber boots into the torque plates on each side. After lubing with rubber grease use a 1/4 drive extension to push them into the torque plate - stretches the boots enough to pop straight in with risk of puncturing the sealed end (the non-bellows end).

Also, to install the piston dust boots - do those without the piston inserted, then 3 hands to stretch the boot open and a 4th finally pushing the piston into place. Goes together in a minute or so.

cheers,
george.

Installed new rotors, old man Emu springs and kyb gas adjust socks, waiting on calipers and rear springs, suppose to be here Monday

Finally installed the new Kenwood head unit. I've had it for about two months. Been driving around without a stereo since the week after I picked it up in March. No more Spanish radio stations.

Need to replace the speakers. It sounds ok but little to no bass. In time. A million things in line before that.

Wheeling in Croom park. Florida. This is about as good as it gets around here.

Set up camp outside of Ouray CO. Started raining so i half assed put the annex on the tent (only the second time I've used it), so I can sit dry

, do step #6, and post on mud!

Noah's tarp 12 + 2x kelty 8ft poles = awesome rain shelter. And you arent stuck in a tiny tent.

Either way.. Ouray again for me in mid-september.. it'll probably be raining but I'm super excited.

Finally installed my Uniden Pro 510XL CB.

It took quite a bit of slicing and filing to get it in there and it's a super tight fit. At least it won't vibrate loose when I'm on the washboard forest roads like my stereo.

I've noticed a grinding noise coming from the back sometimes when I'm braking, usually when pointed downhill. I pulled the calipers off today and everything looks normal. Plenty of pad still there and the rotors look fine. I put a little grease on the caliper pins on the DS because they looked a little dry. When rotating the hub forward or backwards to check for grinding sound I noticed some play and a clunk. Normal??

Looks/sounds normal to me

was the wheel off the other side?

A lot of the hollow clunk sound is probably the hub on the other side moving slightly inside the rotor hat because it isn't clamped by the wheel/lugnuts.

Even then, there is a bit of slop in the splines/spider gears/diff/driveshaft/transfer case/etc. Could easily account for the play back and forth.
